CT angiography of acute aortic syndrome in patients with chronic kidney disease.

Int J Cardiovasc Imaging

January 2025

Department of Clinical Radiology, AHEPA University Hospital of Thessaloniki, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Thessaloniki, Greece.

The term acute aortic syndrome (AAS) refers to a range of different entities, including dissection, intramural haematoma and penetrating atherosclerotic ulcer. Patients with chronic renal disease and particularly those with dominant polycystic kidney disease are susceptible to this pathology, given the underlying renal arteriopathy and hypertension. Imaging plays a crucial role in diagnosing, grading and guiding management of these patients, with computed tomography angiography (CTA) being on the frontline.

Acute internal carotid artery occlusion (AICAO) can result in malignant cerebral edema and unfavorable patient outcomes. This study evaluated the utility of transcranial Doppler (TCD) in assessing contralateral flow compensation and predicting outcomes in patients with AICAO. We enrolled 51 patients within 6 h of symptom onset and conducted TCD examinations to evaluate collateral circulation.

Evaluation of in-stent restenosis after carotid artery stenting with superb microvascular imaging: initial findings.

Acta Radiol

January 2025

Department of Radiology, Interventional Radiology, Sağlık Bilimleri Üniversitesi Ankara Dışkapı Yıldırım Beyazıt Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi, Ankara, Türkiye.

Background: Carotid artery stenting (CAS) is an interventional management in preventing ischemic stroke caused by carotid artery stenosis. After the treatment with CAS, in-stent restenosis caused by neointimal hyperplasia may develop.

Purpose: This study aims to obtain a better determination of neointimal hyperplasia using superb microvascular imaging (SMI), which provides a high-quality visualization of the endoluminal lesions, and to compare these results with B-mode and Doppler ultrasound (US).

Introduction: Pelvic fractures often result in life-threatening bleeding and hemodynamic instability. Resuscitative endovascular balloon occlusion of the aorta (REBOA) has emerged as a promising strategy for patients with severe pelvic fractures, facilitating subsequent hemostatic interventions. Transcatheter arterial embolization (TAE) is a well-established procedure for managing pelvic fractures accompanied by hemorrhage.

Introduction: Brain arteriovenous malformations (AVM) are complex vascular pathologies with a significant risk of hemorrhage. Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) is an effective treatment modality for AVM, initially popularized on the Gamma Knife (Elekta AB, Stockholm, Sweden) platform, and now benefits from the modern advances in linear accelerator (LINAC)-based platforms. This study evaluates the outcomes of LINAC-based SRS/hypofractionated stereotactic radiotherapy (hFSRT) for cerebral AVMs.
