Introduction: Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) affects a significant proportion of aging males, often requiring surgical intervention when conservative treatments fail.

Case Description: This case report details the management of a 58-year-old male with severe lower urinary tract symptoms and a markedly enlarged prostate, presenting with bladder stones and persistent obstruction despite medication. The patient underwent an open simple prostatectomy but developed bladder neck contracture and recurrent urinary retention, necessitating a suprapubic cystostomy.

Durable and Damageless Supramolecular Binder for Fast, Stable, and Sustainable Si-Based Anodes.

J Am Chem Soc

December 2024

Frontiers Science Center for Transformative Molecules, School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai 200240, China.

Mechanical fatigue of the binders during the repeated volume change of Si-based anodes induces binder network collapse, resulting in lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) failing prematurely. Herein, we designed a damageless polymer binder with a mechanically interlocked network utilizing [n]daisy chains (MIN) and poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) to improve the structural cohesion of the Si-based anode. This MIN@PAA binder exhibits robust mechanical properties, high elasticity, and excellent adhesion.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to determine if using an anaerobic adhesive on abutment screws impacts the stability of dental implants, specifically comparing external hexagon (EHC) and conical connections (CC).
  • - Twenty implants were tested using a digital torque meter and resonance frequency measurements to gauge implant stability, revealing that ISQ values were lower after applying the adhesive.
  • - Results indicated that while the adhesive reduced ISQ readings, its curing time had no additional effect on the stability, suggesting that comparisons of ISQ values between adhesive-treated and untreated screws are invalid.

cRGD-Conjugated Bilirubin Nanoparticles Alleviate Dry Eye Disease Via Activating the PINK1-Mediated Mitophagy.

Invest Ophthalmol Vis Sci

November 2024

Department of Ophthalmology, Shanghai East Hospital, School of Medicine, Tongji University, Shanghai, People's Republic of China.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the cytoprotective effect and the mechanism of cRGD-conjugated bilirubin nanoparticles (cNPs@BR) in dry eye disease (DED).

Methods: The binding capacity and cellular uptake of cNPs@BR in human corneal epithelial cells (HCECs) were assessed by immunofluorescence. The anti-inflammation and anti-oxidative stress effects of cNPs@BR were determined by flow cytometry, immunofluorescence, Western blot, chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP), and ELISA assay in LPS-stimulated RAW264.
