Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has underscored the beneficial impact of vaccines. It also highlighted the need for future investments to expedite an equitable vaccine distribution. The 100 Days Mission aims to develop and make available a new vaccine against a future pathogen with pandemic potential within 100 days of that pathogen threat being recognised.

The dimeric architecture of tandem-repeat type galectins, such as galectin-4 (Gal-4), modulates their biological activities, although the underlying molecular mechanisms have remained elusive. Emerging evidence show that tandem-repeat galectins play an important role in innate immunity by recognizing carbohydrate antigens present on the surface of certain pathogens, which very often mimic the structures of the human self-glycan antigens. Herein, we have analyzed the binding preferences of the C-domain of Gal-4 (Gal-4C) toward the ABH-carbohydrate histo-blood antigens with different core presentations and their recognition features have been rationalized by using a combined experimental approach including NMR, solid-phase and hemagglutination assays, and molecular modeling.

Neutralizing capacity measurement (NCM) of soluble ABH substances (SAS) in plasma was assessed to guide the selection of the appropriate ABO group of fresh-frozen plasma (FFP) for plasma exchange (PE) in blood group O recipients with ABO-incompatible transplantations. Neutralizing capacity was assessed by measuring anti-A and/or anti-B titers in samples comprising one unit of O FFP and 10 O EDTA plasma samples and subtracting the binary logarithm of the titer in each group with a saline dilution. Ten EDTA plasma samples with Lewis b (Le) antigen positivity and 10 sets of pooled FFP from each blood group were used as diluents.

Objective: To evaluate alveolar bone remodelling and stability of mandibular incisors in adult orthodontic extraction patients.
Materials And Methods: Cone-beam computed tomography images of 25 adult patients undergoing extraction were collected before orthodontic treatment (T1), after orthodontic treatment (T2), and after at least 1 year of retention (T3). The labial and lingual alveolar bone heights (ABH), thickness (ABT), and tooth movement of the mandibular incisors were measured during the retraction (T2-T1) and retention (T3-T2) periods.

Background: Vaccines have reduced severe disease and death from Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). However, with evidence of waning efficacy coupled with continued evolution of the virus, health programmes need to evaluate the requirement for regular booster doses, considering their impact and cost-effectiveness in the face of ongoing transmission and substantial infection-induced immunity.
Methods And Findings: We developed a combined immunological-transmission model parameterised with data on transmissibility, severity, and vaccine effectiveness.
