Deciphering the role of hepcidin in iron metabolism and anemia management.

J Trace Elem Med Biol

January 2025

Biochemistry Laboratory, Department of Zoology, Dr. Harisingh Gour Vishwavidyalaya (A Central University), Sagar, Madhya Pradesh 470003, India. Electronic address:

One of the most common diseases worldwide is anemia, which is characterized by insufficient erythrocyte production. Numerous complex factors, such as chronic diseases, genetic mutations, and nutritional inadequacies, contribute to this widespread syndrome. This review focuses specifically on anemias caused by defective hepcidin production.

Analyzing the cell interface is of paramount importance in understanding how cells interact and communicate with other cells, but an advanced analytical platform that can process complex and networked interactions between cell surface ligands and receptors is lacking. Herein, we developed the cell-interface-deciphering lipid nanotablet (CID-LNT) for multiplexed real-time cell analysis. LNT is a nanoparticle-tethered lipid bilayer chip where freely diffusing plasmonic nanoparticles induce scattering signal changes.

This study explores novel therapeutic avenues for diabetes, a global health concern marked by elevated blood glucose levels. We investigated the anti-diabetic potential of Gymnema Sylvestre's bioactive compounds, including Gymnemic acid I, Stigmasterol, Deacylgymnemic acid, Beta-Amyrin acetate, Longispinogenin, Gymnemic acid II, Gymnemic acid, Gymnemic acid X, Gymnemaside VI, Phytic acid and Gymnemic acid X. Employing network pharmacology, molecular docking and molecular dynamics (MD), we elucidated the potential mechanism of action.

Tissue clearing combined with high-resolution confocal imaging is a cutting-edge approach for dissecting the three-dimensional (3D) architecture of tissues and deciphering cellular spatial interactions under physiological and pathological conditions. Deciphering the spatial interaction of leptin receptor-expressing (LepR) stromal cells with other compartments in the bone marrow is crucial for a deeper understanding of the stem cell niche and the skeletal tissue. In this study, we introduce an optimized protocol for the 3D analysis of skeletal tissues, enabling the visualization of hematopoietic and stromal cells, especially LepR stromal cells, within optically cleared bone hemisections.

Deciphering the role of TMEM164 in autophagy-mediated ferroptosis and immune modulation in non-small cell lung cancer.

Cell Immunol

January 2025

Department of Anatomy, College of Medicine, King Saud University, Saudia Arabia. Electronic address:

Background: Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) remains one of the most prevalent and deadly malignancies. Despite advancements in molecular therapies and diagnostic methods, the 5-year survival rate for lung adenocarcinoma patients remains unacceptably low, highlighting the urgent need for novel therapeutic strategies. Ferroptosis, a distinct form of regulated cell death, has emerged as a promising target in cancer treatment.
