Introduction: Prostaglandins (PG) are important regulators of the myometrial contractility in mammals. Endometrosis, a condition characterized by morphological changes in the equine endometrium, also affects endometrial secretory function. However, it remains unclear whether and how endometrosis affects myometrial function.

Celecoxib paradoxically induces COX-2 expression and astrocyte activation through the ERK/JNK/AP-1 signaling pathway in the cerebral cortex of rats.

Previous studies have shown that celecoxib or NSAID may paradoxically induce cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) expression and trigger inflammation-like responses in airway smooth muscle cells and renal mesangial cells. Despite the extensive research on celecoxib, its atypical biological effect on the induction of COX-2 in astroglial cells within the central nervous system (CNS) remains unexplored. In the present study, we investigated the impact of celecoxib on COX-2 and Glial Fibrillary Acidic Protein (GFAP) expression and explored the mechanisms underlying celecoxib-regulated COX-2 expression in cortical astrocytes of rats.

Comprehensive Blood Metabolome and Exposome Analysis, Annotation, and Interpretation in E-Waste Workers.

December 2024

Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, McGill University, Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue, QC H9X 3V9, Canada.

Electronic and electrical waste (e-waste) production has emerged to be of global environmental public health concern. E-waste workers, who are frequently exposed to hazardous chemicals through occupational activities, face considerable health risks. To investigate the metabolic and exposomic changes in these workers, we analyzed whole blood samples from 100 male e-waste workers and 49 controls from the GEOHealth II project (2017-2018 in Accra, Ghana) using LC-MS/MS.

PTGES3 proteolysis using the liposomal peptide-PROTAC approach.

December 2024

Center of Hepatobiliary Pancreatic Disease, Xuzhou Central Hospital, Xuzhou, Jiangsu, 221009, China.

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide, and the lack of effective biomarkers for early detection leads to poor therapeutic outcomes. Prostaglandin E Synthase 3 (PTGES3) is a putative prognostic marker in many solid tumors; however, its expression and biological functions in HCC have not been determined. The proteolysis-targeting chimera (PROTAC) is an established technology for targeted protein degradation.

The brain's substantial metabolic requirements, consuming a substantial fraction of the body's total energy despite its relatively small mass, necessitate sophisticated metabolic mechanisms for efficient energy distribution and utilization. The astrocyte-neuron lactate shuttle (ANLS) hypothesis has emerged as a fundamental framework explaining the metabolic cooperation between astrocytes and neurons, whereby astrocyte-derived lactate serves as a crucial energy substrate for neurons. This review synthesizes current understanding of brain energy metabolism, focusing on the dual roles of lactate as both an energy substrate and a signaling molecule.
