An improved dynamic metabolic model for application to biota.

J Environ Radioact

December 2024

"Horia Hulubei" National Institute for Physics and Nuclear Engineering, Life and Environmental Physics Department, 30 Reactorului St., Bucharest-Magurele, POB MG-6, RO-077125, Romania. Electronic address:

Any major nuclear facility must ensure the conservation of biodiversity regarding radiation protection of biota. A special concern is for tritium (H) and radiocarbon (C) transfer in wild mammals, birds and reptiles. Hydrogen and carbon are the main components of biological tissues and enter the life cycle.

(1) Background: Previous studies have enriched high-density lipoproteins (HDL) using cholesteryl esters in rabbits with a three-quarter reduction in functional renal mass, suggesting that the kidneys participate in the cholesterol homeostasis of these lipoproteins. However, the possible role of the kidneys in lipoprotein metabolism is still controversial. To understand the role of the kidneys in regulating the HDL lipid content, we determined the turnover of HDL-cholesteryl esters in rabbits with a three-quarter renal mass reduction.

Assaying the Molecular Determinants and Kinetics of RNA Pseudouridylation by H/ACA snoRNPs and Stand-Alone Pseudouridine Synthases.

Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Alberta RNA Research and Training Institute, University of Lethbridge, Lethbridge, AB, Canada.

Posttranscriptional modifications of RNA play an important role in promoting the maturation and functional diversity of many RNA species. Accordingly, understanding the enzymes and mechanisms that underlie RNA modifications is an important aspect in advancing our knowledge of the continually expanding RNA modification field. However, of the more than 160 currently identified RNA modifications, a large portion remains without quantitative detection assays for their biochemical characterization.

Aim: To investigate the mechanisms behind the lower postprandial glucose (PPG) concentrations achieved with fast-acting insulin aspart (faster aspart) than with insulin aspart (IAsp).

Materials And Methods: In a randomized, double-blind, crossover trial, 41 people with type 1 diabetes received identical subcutaneous single faster aspart and IAsp doses (individualized for each participant), together with a standardized mixed meal (including 75 g carbohydrate labelled with [1- C] glucose). PPG turnover was determined by the triple-tracer meal method using continuous, variable [6- H] glucose and [6,6- H ] glucose infusion.

The concentrations of fourteen neurochemicals associated with metabolism, neurotransmission, antioxidant capacity, and cellular structure were measured noninvasively from two distinct brain regions using H magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Seventeen young adults (age 19-22years) and sixteen cognitively normal older adults (age 70-88years) were scanned. To increase sensitivity and specificity, H magnetic resonance spectra were obtained at the ultra-high field of 7T and at ultra-short echo time.
