Cutaneous squamous scell carcinoma (cSCC) is a frequent non-melanoma skin cancer that originates from keratinocytes with increased prevalence. cSCC can be either in situ, as in Bowen's disease, or extended. Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) are widely used in cancer treatment, yet their impact on bone health remains unclear. This study aimed to perform a retrospective cohort study utilizing routine computed tomography (CT) scans from patients with melanoma to perform opportunistic quantitative CT (QCT) analysis to investigate the effects of ICI treatment on skeletal health, including volumetric bone mineral density (vBMD) measurements and osteoarthritis (OA) parameters. A previously established machine-learning assisted opportunistic QCT pipeline was used to estimate lumbar spine vBMD from baseline and 12-month follow-up CT scans in patients with melanoma treated with ICI therapy and those not treated with ICI therapy.

Background: CONCORD-3 highlighted wide disparities in population-based 5-year net survival for cutaneous melanoma during 2000-2014. Studies showed a survival advantage in women, but the reasons are not completely understood. We aim to estimate trends in age-standardised 5-year net survival by sex and to examine the role of age, anatomic location and stage on the survival advantage for women worldwide.

The cytokine interleukin-10 (IL-10) limits the immune response and promotes resolution of acute inflammation. Because of its immunosuppressive effects, IL-10 up-regulation is a common feature of tumor progression and metastasis. Recently, IL-10 regulation has been shown to depend on mitochondria and redox-sensitive signals.

Comparative analysis of quality of life in solid organ transplant recipients: the influence of skin cancer.

Arch Dermatol Res

January 2025

Department of Dermatology, Mayo Clinic, Jacksonville, San Pablo Rd Jacksonville, Florida, 4500, 32224, USA.

Background: Dermatological health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in solid organ transplant recipients (SOTRs), often affected by skin cancer, has been insufficiently explored. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of skin cancer on quality of life (QoL) in SOTRs and to compare HRQoL measures between SOTRs with and without skin cancer.

Methods: This cross-sectional study (June 2023-March 2024) assessed adult SOTRs using the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) and Skindex-29 questionnaires.
