The ultrastructure of post fetal chondrogenesis was investigated in chondrogenetic implants and explants of bone matrix gelatin: (A) in direct contact with living cells; (B) separated from living cells by cellulose acetate membranes; (C) in serum or in a culture medium with no contact with living cells. Ruthenium red (RR) staining coarse granules free of interconnecting filaments aggregated in interstitial fluid and inside the surface of the bone matrix gelatin within 72 hours in systems with either direct or indirect contact with living connective tissue cells. No RR granules formed when control denatured or autolysed bone matrix gelatin were substituted for undenatured bone matrix gelatin. No RR granules formed in bone matrix gelatin incubated in serums or media in the absence of living cells in the system. These observations suggest the possibility that 4 days before overt transmembrane cartilage cell differentiation, covert (presumptive) chondroblasts synthesize and secrete precursor substance for aggregation of filament-free RR granules. The relationship between chondromorphogenesis and filament-free RR granules requires further investigation.

Purpose: Primary anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction graft failure remains a significant health concern in young patients. Despite the high incidence of poor graft integration in these patients and the resulting high failure rate, little consideration has been given to the quality of the bone into which the graft is anchored at reconstruction. Therefore, we investigated post ACL injury mineralized tissue changes in the ACL femoral entheses of young males and compared them to changes previously reported for young females.

Background: Multiple myeloma (MM) represents the second most common hematological malignancy characterized by the infiltration of the bone marrow by plasma cells that produce monoclonal immunoglobulin. While the quality and length of life of MM patients have significantly increased, MM remains a hard-to-treat disease; almost all patients relapse. As MM is highly heterogenous, patients relapse at different times.

Mineralizing cells release a special class of extracellular vesicles known as matrix vesicles (MV), crucial for bone mineralization. Following their release, MV anchor to the extracellular matrix (ECM), where their highly specialized enzymatic machinery facilitates the formation of seed mineral within the MV's lumen, subsequently releasing it onto the ECM. However, how MV propagate mineral onto the collagenous ECM remains unclear.

Biodegradable temporizing matrix (BTM) is a synthetic biodegradable dermal matrix that helps develop a non-skin graft amenable wound bed (eg, over tendon or bone) into a graftable wound bed, by acting as an inert scaffold for angiogenesis and formation of granulation tissue. There is currently a paucity of evidence to encourage its use in scalp defects following skin malignancy excision. This retrospective analysis aimed to evaluate the utility of BTM in this patient subset.

Background: The aim of this study was to investigate the association between dental fluorosis occurrence in children and bone metabolism-related indicators, including bone-specific alkaline phosphatase (BALP), osteocalcin (OC), matrix metalloproteinase (MMP-2, MMP-9, MMP-20), and parathyroid hormone (PTH).
Methods: A total of 189 cases of school-age children who underwent health examinations in our hospital were enrolled, according to the presence or absence of dental fluorosis. They were divided into the fluorosis group (n=97) and fluoride-free group (n=92), and the serum BALP, OC, MMP-2, MMP-9, MMP-20, and PTH levels of the two groups were compared and relevant clinical data were collected.
