The development of the avian fibula was studied both histologically and experimentally. It was found that from the onset of chondrogenesis, the fibula possessed a smaller diameter than the neighbouring tibia. The truncated growth of the fibula was a result of the loss of its distal epiphysis between stages 27-31. This epiphysis subsequently became fused to the tibia and formed the fibulare of the tibiotarsus. The experiment of Hampé (1960) was repeated by inserting tantalum barriers into the limb between stages 18 and 23: this sometimes prevented the separation of the fibula distal epiphysis, thus giving rise to an elongated element. A similar result was obtained from grafts of polarizing region into the leg bud at stages 18-20. It was concluded that there was no evidence for competitive interaction between the blastemata of the tibia and fibula. In addition, the differential growth in diameters between the tibia and fibula was largely a result of differential osteogenesis rather than chondrogenesis as previously thought.

Background: Aim of the present paper is to report the preliminary results of CAD-CAM (Computer-Aided Design - Computer-Aided Manufacturing) technology application to distal femur nonunion treatment with free fibula flap, custom made medial plating and maintenance of a stable lateral locking plate.
Methods: Two cases of distal femur nonunion that occurred after lateral locking plating were treated and prospectively followed-up. Surgical planning followed the same preoperative protocol adopted for mandibular CAD-CAM reconstruction.

Objectives: Long bone fractures with concomitant vascular injury have the potential to be life and limb threatening injuries, with increased risk for limb loss. There is currently no established surgical order of operations for orthopaedic and vascular intervention. This study compares injury classification, warm ischemia time and patient outcomes in patients with long bone fractures and associated vascular injury after orthopaedic versus vascular primary intervention.

Objective: Aim: To study the ATFL length among asymptomatic population of young patients on both joints by using the method of ultrasound examination of the ankle joint and applying the inversion stress test.
Patients And Methods: Materials and Methods: the length of the ATFL was measured among 60 boys and 60 girls during the research. Sonography was performed on both joints, in each of the two studied positions, three times per position in order to obtain the average ligament length.

Background/purpose: The functional and aesthetic reconstruction of the mandible can be achieved by using the double-barrel vascularized free fibula flap. The purpose of this study was to use multiple integrated techniques to more effectively reconstruct the mandible, some contains of our unique ideas.
Materials And Methods: 21 patients were included in this study.

Irreducible ankle fracture-dislocations due to posterior tibialis tendon (PTT) interposition in the distal tibiofibular and tibiotalar joints are rarely reported, and their diagnoses are often missed and delayed. In addition, previous reports lacked a longer clinical follow-up period, and objective and subjective evaluations of such cases have not been reported. A 22-year-old man sustained an open fracture-dislocation of the ankle joint associated with a distal third of the fibular shaft fracture and diastasis of the distal tibiofibular joint.
