Intraspinal synovial cysts probably originate from herniation of synovium through a weakened facet joint capsule. The computed tomographic (CT) findings of such lesions were recently reported. An additional characteristic is gas within the cyst as demonstrated by CT. We postulate the source to be an adjacent diseased facet joint with a vacuum cleft with consequent dissection of gas into the cyst.

Microtextured microneedles are tiny needle-like structures with micron-scale microtextures, and the drugs stored in the microtextures can be released after entering the skin to achieve the effect of precise drug delivery. In this study, the skin substitution model of Ogden's hyperelastic model and the microneedle array and microtexture models with different geometrical parameters were selected to simulate and analyse the flow of the microtexture microneedle arrays penetrating the skin by the finite-element method, and the length of the microneedles was determined to be 200 μm, the width 160 μm, and the value of the gaps was determined to be 420 μm. A four-pronged cone was chosen as the shape of microneedles, and a rectangle was chosen as the shape of the drug-carrying microneedle.

Evidence-based cesarean delivery: intraoperative management from skin incision until placental delivery (Part 8).

Am J Obstet Gynecol MFM

December 2024

Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia, PA. Electronic address:

The goal of standardizing the technique of the routine, uncomplicated cesarean delivery (CD) is to decrease maternal morbidity while optimizing neonatal outcomes. During the procedure, a family-oriented CD is recommended. The low transverse cesarean skin incision (created with either scalpel or diathermy) is preferred with either the Joel-Cohen or Pfannenstiel methods being acceptable.

Massive pneumocephalus after Valsalva maneuver in sphenoidal meningocele.

Department of Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, University of Insubria, Varese, Italy; Head and Neck Surgery & Forensic Dissection Research Center (HNS&FDRc), Department of Biotechnology and Life Sciences, University of Insubria, Varese, Italy.

Pneumocephalus, defined as the presence of gas within the intracranial space, typically results from head trauma, surgery, or diagnostic/therapeutic procedures that disrupt the dura. However, spontaneous or non-traumatic pneumocephalus is rare. This video article presents a case report of a 64-year-old woman referred to the Department of Otolaryngology with a severe frontal headache and clear nasal discharge (rhinorrhea) after performing the Valsalva maneuver to relieve ear fullness.

Oxygen evolution reaction (OER) catalyst stability metrics derived from aqueous model systems (AMSs) prove valuable only if they are transferable to technical membrane electrode assembly (MEA) settings. Currently, there is consensus that stability data derived from ubiquitous rotating disk electrode (RDE)-based investigations substantially overestimate material degradation mainly due to the nonideal inertness of catalyst-backing electrode materials as well as bubble shielding of the catalyst by evolved oxygen. Despite the independently developed understanding of these two processes, their interplay and relative impact on intrinsic and operational material stability have not yet been established.

Dissecting the effects of co-exposure to microplastics and sulfamethoxazole on anaerobic digestion.

Microplastics (MPs) and antibiotics are frequently and simultaneously detected in sewage and sludge, raising global concerns in recent years. However, their combined effects on anaerobic digestion (AD) remain unclear. Herein, we evaluated the effects of the combinations of different MPs (i.
