A standard TLC procedure was tested for its applicability in the qualitative analysis of several creams. It was found that in creams of known composition the presence of almost all of the active cream components as well as the excipients can be confirmed. An additional eluent, spray reagent, or a liquid extraction clean-up step sometimes appeared to be necessary. If the cream base composition is not known, a 'fingerprint' of the various types of excipients is obtained with the described procedure.

Background: Poor diet quality may contribute to undernutrition, particularly affecting young children from low-income households. Therefore, affordable and healthy local food-based recommendations (FBRs) are needed.

Objectives: This study aimed to (1) identify problem nutrient(s), (2) identify locally available nutrient-dense food sources that can provide adequate nutrients to meet the recommended dietary intakes of undernourished urban poor children aged 2-5 years, and (3) use linear programming to recommend a daily diet based on the current food patterns that achieves dietary adequacy and meets average food costs for these children.

This study aimed to develop patches containing quercetin-loaded microcapsules and to evaluate their in vitro and in vivo safety and efficacy in preclinical surveys. A set of in vitro experiments evidenced the virucidal activity of quercetin against the HSV-1-KOS (sensitive to acyclovir) and HSV-1-AR (resistant to acyclovir) strains, with improved outcomes upon the first. The patches presented a homogeneous aspect, were easily handled, had a suitable bioadhesion, and possessed mechanical properties of soft and weak material, besides a pH compatible with human skin.

This ethnobotanical study examines the traditional knowledge and usage patterns of wild plants in the western Alps, specifically within the Ubaye and Bellino Valleys, through a comparative analysis of data collected from 1983 (published in 1990) to 2024. Our study aims to assess the change in plant usage, species diversity, and the changing roles of plants in local traditions in the western Alpine mountain ecosystems. While the 1983 survey documented medicinal uses centered around pastoralist practices, the 2024 data highlight a notable increase in the use of synanthropic plants, now utilized both medicinally and as food.
