[Contractive function of mesenteric lymph nodes in obese rats].

Vopr Pitan

October 2024

Pavlov Institute of Physiology, Russian Academy of Sciences, 199034, St. Petersburg, Russian Federation.

Over the past 50 years, the prevalence of obesity around the world has increased several times and has become a pandemic. The effect of obesity on the lymphatic system, which plays a key role in the regulation of fluid homeostasis, immune cell migration, antigen presentation, and resolution of inflammatory responses, is poorly understood, and there is no data on the contractile activity of the lymph nodes in obesity. of the research was to investigate the parameters and mechanisms of dysfunction of the contractile function of the mesenteric lymph nodes of rats in obesity caused by the feeding with the high-fat diet (HFD).

Investigation of prognostic factors for non-sentinel lymph node metastasis in patients undergoing sentinel lymph node biopsy for cutaneous malignant melanoma: Experience from a reference centre in Turkey.

J Plast Reconstr Aesthet Surg

April 2024

Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery, Cerrahpasa Medical Faculty, Istanbul University, Cerrahpasa, Istanbul 34700, Turkey. Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • - The study analyzed the effectiveness of sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) and completion lymph node dissection (CLND) in melanoma patients to understand factors linked to positive non-sentinel nodes, based on 110 cases over 7 years.
  • - Results showed that 34.5% of SLNBs were positive, and higher Breslow thickness and characteristics like perinodal invasion were associated with a greater risk of non-sentinel node metastasis.
  • - The authors emphasize the need for more studies in diverse populations to adapt findings from this cohort and address related issues in melanoma treatment.

Background: Embryonic pluripotency markers are recognized for their role in ER- BC aggressiveness, but their significance in ER+ BC remains unclear. This study aims to investigate the prevalence of expression of pluripotency markers in ER+ BC and their effect on survival and prognostic indicators.

Methods: We analyzed data of ER+ BC patients from three large cancer datasets to assess the expression of three pluripotency markers (NANOG, SOX-2, and OCT4), and the stem cell marker ALDH1A1.

Aim: To validate the role of lymph node density as a prognostic marker in patients undergoing primary surgery and postneoadjuvant therapy in pathological node-positive urothelial bladder carcinoma.

Materials And Methods: Retrospective analysis of 503 patients who underwent radical cystectomy from 2006 to 2019 for muscle-invasive urothelial bladder carcinoma, of which 152 patients with pathological node-positive disease were analyzed. Demographic details, pathological findings, treatment details, disease-free, and overall survival were documented.

The bone transcription factor Osterix controls extracellular matrix- and node of Ranvier-related gene expression in oligodendrocytes.

Neuron

January 2024

Department of Neurology, Division of Multiple Sclerosis and Neuroimmunology, Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University, Chicago, IL, USA. Electronic address:

Oligodendrocytes are the primary producers of many extracellular matrix (ECM)-related proteins found in the CNS. Therefore, oligodendrocytes play a critical role in the determination of brain stiffness, node of Ranvier formation, perinodal ECM deposition, and perineuronal net formation, all of which depend on the ECM. Nevertheless, the transcription factors that control ECM-related gene expression in oligodendrocytes remain unknown.
