Background: The Anopheles culicifacies complex is one of the most important malaria vectors in Southeast Asia and Southeastern Iran. Although the sibling species within this complex are morphologically indistinguishable, they differ significantly in their disease transmission potential, blood-feeding behaviour, and other biological traits. Cytogenetic and chromosomal studies have identified five sibling species within this complex: A, B, C, D, and E.

Millions of pilgrims walking to the holy Ramdevra temple stay in temporary shelters along the route in district of Jaisalmer, Rajasthan state in western India. The main pilgrimage period coincides with the post-monsoon period with elevated vector densities.

The objective of this review was to update the current knowledge on major malaria vectors in Sri Lanka and their bio-ecology and insecticide resistance status. Relevant data were collected through a comprehensive literature search performed using databases such as PubMed, NIH, Google Scholar and Web of Science. Sri Lanka had been endemic to malaria for centuries.
