A 59-year-old white woman presented with two lesions on her face. A clinical diagnosis of intradermal nevus was made and the lesions were excised. In each lesion, histopathologic examination showed an intradermal nevus associated with syringoma. The unusual association of syringoma and intradermal nevus in two lesions forms the basis of this report.

Oral melanocytic nevi (OMN) are rare benign tumors originating from melanocytes with an unclear pathogenesis. The current theory suggests that OMN originate from dormant dendritic melanocytes that become enclosed in the dermis during the embryonic migration of melanoblasts - the precursors of melanocytes - from the neural crest to the epidermis. OMN can be congenital or acquired, with acquired nevi being more common.

Our prospective case series evaluates the clinical feature, histopathological picture, and treatment of benign eyelid lesions in a tertiary referral setting. Participants were first nine patients referred to the author with unilateral eyelid swelling. Main outcome measures were clinical features, histopathological picture, and response to surgical intervention.

Intradermal nevus is a benign lesion that typically presents as clusters of melanocytes within the dermal layer of skin. Although both MC and melanocytic nevus are common lesions, MC arising within a melanocytic nevus is a rare event with only a few cases published in the literature.

Two patients, a 38-year-old woman and, a 74-year-old man, had ulceronodular basal cell carcinoma at the lower eyelid margin, directly opposite a nodular intradermal nevus at the upper lid margin. Both patients had the nevi for decades and the tumors for 2 and 3 years, respectively. The size of the tumors were 9 × 4 mm and 10 × 15 mm.

Vitamin D activates the vitamin D receptor (VDR), which dimerizes preferentially with the retinoid X receptor-α (RXRα). This heterodimer connects with genetic elements responsive to vitamin D, inhibiting or stimulating gene activity. We performed Nanostring® analysis of VDR/RXRα to compare the mRNA expression of this heterodimer and their correlated transcriptomes in non-melanoma skin cancer (basal cell carcinomas (BCC) and squamous cell carcinomas (SCC)) and melanocytic lesions (intradermal nevi (IN), and melanomas (MM)) with control skin.
