Electronic address:

Nephrotoxicity, including electrolytic disorders and acute kidney injury (AKI), limits the clinical dosage and utility of platinated antineoplastics such as cisplatin. Cisplatin nephrotoxicity embodies a tubulopathy involving the medullary S2 and S3 segments of the proximal and the distal tubules. Higher dosage extends damage over the cortical S1 segment and intensifies overall injury.

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) progresses with age and is associated with chronic inflammation. We focused on the relationship between BPH and ganglioside monosialodihexosylganglioside (GM3), a sialic acid-containing glycosphingolipid that is involved in chronic inflammation. GM3 molecular species would have a significant role in regulating inflammatory processes.

Electrodiagnostic methods to verify Guillain-Barré syndrome subtypes in Istanbul: A prospective multicenter study.

J Peripher Nerv Syst

March 2024

Istanbul Faculty of Medicine, Department of Neurology and Clinical Neurophysiology, Istanbul University, Istanbul, Turkey.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focused on identifying the clinical characteristics and electrodiagnostic subtypes of Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) in Istanbul over a three-year period.
  • Researchers conducted two electrodiagnostic examinations for 177 GBS patients and compared criteria for differentiating between demyelinating and axonal subtypes, finding varied diagnosis frequencies based on the criteria used.
  • Results indicated that patients with anti-ganglioside antibodies had distinct clinical features, including less sensory symptoms and a more severe disease profile; no significant increase in GBS cases was noted during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Background And Objective: In people with multiple sclerosis (pwMS), concern for potential disease exacerbation or triggering of other autoimmune disorders contributes to vaccine hesitancy. We assessed the humoral and T-cell responses to SARS-CoV-2 after mRNA vaccination, changes in disease activity, and development of antibodies against central or peripheral nervous system antigens.

Methods: This was a prospective 1-year longitudinal observational study of pwMS and a control group of patients with other inflammatory neurologic disorders (OIND) who received an mRNA vaccine.

GD2 and GD3 are disialoganglioside oncofetal antigens important in oncogenesis. GD2 synthase (GD2S) and GD3 synthase (GD3S) are needed for GD2 and GD3 production. The objectives of this study are to validate the use of RNA in situ hybridization (RNAscope®) in the detection of GD2S and GD3S in canine histiocytic sarcoma (HS) in vitro and optimize this technique in canine formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissues.
