Fortuitin is a linear acyl nonapeptide methyl ester in which all the peptide residues are hydrophobic. Its 400 MHz 1H NMR spectrum in pyridine-d5 has been assigned. In this solvent, its conformation is not random and seems to form a hairpin. Conformational equilibria exist in pyridine as well as in less polar solvents such as CDCl3 and CD2Cl2. As for other lipopeptides, conformation and self-association properties strongly depend on the polarity of the environment. These properties should be related to the interactions of lipopeptides with membranes and to their capacity to induce pore formation.

Broadband minimalist wireless base stations without energy-consuming electrical power amplifiers are the rosy scenario of the next-generation wireless communication systems. High-power radio-over-fiber (RoF) links, which are featured by large operation bandwidths, are regarded as the supporting technology for realizing such a vision. Nevertheless, the severe signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) deterioration induced by the second Brillouin scattering in high-power and long-distance RoF links must be first solved.

A Reading Range- and Frequency-Reconfigurable Antenna for Near-Field and Far-Field UHF RFID Applications.

Sensors (Basel)

January 2025

Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, The University of Manchester, Manchester M13 9PL, UK.

In radio frequency identification (RFID), differences in spectrum policies and tag misreading in different countries are the two main issues that limit its application. To solve these problems, this article proposes a composite right/left-handed transmission line (CRLH-TL)-based reconfigurable antenna for ultra-high frequency near-field and far-field RFID reader applications. The CRLH-TL is achieved using a periodically capacitive gap-loaded parallel plate line.

Brain temperature mapping based on chemical exchange saturation transfer signal at 2 ppm.

Background: Brain temperature signifies the thermal homeostasis of the tissue, and may serve as a marker for neuroprotective therapy. Currently, it remains challenging to map the human brain temperature with high spatial resolution. The thermal dependence of chemical exchange saturation transfer (CEST) effects of endogenous labile protons may provide a promising mechanism for the absolute brain temperature imaging.

The introduction of benchtop NMR instruments has made NMR spectroscopy a more accessible, affordable option for research and industry, but the lower spectral resolution and SNR of a signal acquired on low magnetic field spectrometers may complicate the quantitative analysis of spectra. In this work, we compare the performance of multiple neural network architectures in the task of converting simulated 100 MHz NMR spectra to 400 MHz with the goal of improving the quality of the low-field spectra for analyte quantification. Multi-layered perceptron networks are also used to directly quantify metabolites in simulated 100 and 400 MHz spectra for comparison.

Acoustic microscopy uses ultra-high frequency (UHF) ultrasound transducers over 80 MHz to perform high-resolution imaging. The pressure output of these transducers is unknown, as commercial calibrated hydrophones can measure pressure for transducers with frequencies only up to 80 MHz. This study used gas vesicle nanostructures (GVs) that collapse at 571 kPa to estimate the pressure of UHF transducers at 40, 80, 200, and 375 MHz.
