Purpose: The primary objective of this study was to investigate the possible role and assess the potential relationship of speculum use during phacoemulsification surgery in the occurrence of blepharoptosis.
Methods: Our study is a prospective observational design to analyze patients who underwent phacoemulsification surgery under topical anesthesia between October 2017 and May 2018 at a tertiary eye hospital in South India. All patients had their Margin Reflex Distance 1 (MRD1), levator palpebrae superioris (LPS) function, and lid crease distance (LCD) measured before and after surgery on day one, one month, three months, and six months to evaluate the extent of ptosis at each time point that was recorded clinically and photographic documentation for accurate evaluation.

Species belonging to the Pezizales are mainly saprobes in nature. They are most commonly observed in woodlands and humid environments. As a result of recent research conducted on the distribution of species in sandy areas and some National Forests Parks, five new species belonging to three genera were identified.

The Qinghai-Xizang Plateau, known for its high altitude, geological history of plate collision, crustal uplift, and special ecology factors, provides an ideal environment for studying fungal biodiversity in extreme environmental conditions. Some species within the , containing secondary metabolites such as psilocybin, phallotoxins, and amatoxins, have potential medicinal value for treating psychiatric disorders and for use in drug development. This study investigates (Bolbitiaceae, Agaricales) on the Plateau, based on specimens collected over the past decade, using morphological and molecular phylogenetic analyses.

: Augmented reality (AR) may allow vitreoretinal surgeons to leverage microscope-integrated digital imaging systems to analyze and highlight key retinal anatomic features in real time, possibly improving safety and precision during surgery. By employing convolutional neural networks (CNNs) for retina vessel segmentation, a retinal coordinate system can be created that allows pre-operative images of capillary non-perfusion or retinal breaks to be digitally aligned and overlayed upon the surgical field in real time. Such technology may be useful in assuring thorough laser treatment of capillary non-perfusion or in using pre-operative optical coherence tomography (OCT) to guide macular surgery when microscope-integrated OCT (MIOCT) is not available.

Accurate identification of surgical instruments is crucial for efficient workflows and patient safety within the operating room, particularly in preventing complications such as retained surgical instruments. Artificial Intelligence (AI) models have shown the potential to automate this process. This study evaluates the accuracy of publicly available Large Language Models (LLMs)-ChatGPT-4, ChatGPT-4o, and Gemini-and a specialized commercial mobile application, Surgical-Instrument Directory (SID 2.
