The anti-thrombotic effect of acetyl salicylic acid (ASA) was studied using the following experimental model: a silk thread was inserted in an extracorporeal shunt between the right carotid artery and the opposite jugular vein. A thrombus developed around the thread which was weighed at 10 minutes intervals. ASA inhibits the development of the thrombus at a dose of 3.1 mg/kg. When the dose was increased the anti-thrombotic effect disappeared. These results suggest that ASA may be an effective antithrombotic agent in man if the dosage is based on pharmacological data.

Purpose: The objective of this study was to evaluate the perioperative outcomes and complications associated with the use of acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) in deceased donor kidney transplantation (KTX), with a particular focus on bleeding events.
Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 157 kidney transplant recipients (KTRs) who underwent KTX at Charité Berlin, Department for Urology, between February 2014 and December 2017. Patients were divided into two groups: patients with ASA in their preoperative medication (Group A, n = 59) and patients without ASA use (Group B, n = 98).

Anacardic acid (AA) was first detected in the shells of cashew nuts, Anacardium occidentale, and is known to possess inhibitory activity against acetyltransferases. Recently, several anacardic acid derivatives (AAds) were isolated from the wild fungus, Tyromyces fissilis, which has been reported as xanthine oxidase inhibitors. In the present study, we investigated whether nine AAds function as acetyltransferase inhibitors.

Background: Coronary artery ectasia (CAE) of the culprit infarct artery is a rare finding in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). While anticoagulants have been suggested to reduce recurrent events, the optimal antithrombotic therapy remains unclear.
Methods: OVER-TIME was an open label, exploratory, randomized controlled trial comparing dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT; acetyl-salicylic-acid 100mg plus clopidogrel 75mg daily) versus single antiplatelet (SAPT, clopidogrel 75mg) plus DOAC (rivaroxaban 15mg) in patients with ACS and CAE.

Common cold viruses are leading triggers of asthma attacks, causing nearly two million hospitalizations per year and productivity losses approaching $40B. They also increase susceptibility to bacterial infections driving antibiotic use. Post-market clinical studies have questioned the efficacy of most over the counter (OTC) cough and cold ingredients against placebo in treating various symptoms.
