In the liver of young mice after partial hepatectomy the hepatocytes which entered S-phase prior to the operation complete DNA synthesis in time and their major part is arrested in G2-phase. During the second half of lag-period (12-24 h after the operation) about half of these cells enters mitosis. Another half of the hepatocytes which were in S-phase during the operation does not proceed to mitosis. The structure of the nuclei of these latter suggests the regression of premitotic preparation: some nuclei return to the initial G0-structure of the normal heterosynthetic hepatocyte (endoreproduction cycle) and others preserve the premitotic structure characteristic of S-phase. A number of morphological features approaches this latter subpopulation to S-nuclei of tumour cells of the mouse hepatoma No. 46. A suggestion is put forward that this subpopulation has lost its capacity for heterosythesis due to operation liver trauma.

Somatic stem cell pools comprise diverse, highly specialized subsets whose individual contribution is critical for the overall regenerative function. In the bone marrow, myeloid-biased hematopoietic stem cells (myHSCs) are indispensable for replenishment of myeloid cells and platelets during inflammatory response but, at the same time, become irreversibly damaged during inflammation and aging. Here we identify an extrinsic factor, semaphorin 4A (Sema4A), which non-cell-autonomously confers myHSC resilience to inflammatory stress.

An alternative approach for the management of acute and chronic pains involves prolonging the half-life of endogenous opiates, such as enkephalins that are released in response to nociceptive stimuli. This can be achieved through the inhibition of enzymatic pathways responsible for the hydrolysis of these peptides, particularly targeting Aminopeptidase N (APN) and Neutral Endopeptidase (NEP). In this study, we designed and synthesized a series of dual enkephalinase inhibitors (DENKIs) targeting both APN and NEP as novel analgesic treatments.

The condition in which the insulin secretory ability of pancreatic β-cells decreases in diabetes is extremely important, but there are currently no biomarkers that reflect pancreatic β-cell failure. Therefore, we conducted a search for biomarkers, using pancreatic β-cell-specific 3-Phosphoinositide-dependent protein kinase 1 (PDK1) knockout mice, which develop severe hyperglycemia due to a decrease in pancreatic β-cell mass without insulin resistance. The analysis was performed in young mice when metabolic abnormalities were not yet apparent.

Purpose: Trophoblast cell-surface antigen 2 (Trop2) is overexpressed in various solid tumors and contributes to tumor progression, while its expression remains low in normal tissues. Trop2-targeting antibody-drug conjugate (ADC), sacituzumab govitecan-hziy (Trodelvy), has shown efficacy in targeting this antigen.
