Background: The present study aims to assess the therapeutic potential of vitamin C (Vit C) on anxiety- and depressive-like behavior induced by abstinence from chronic nicotine-ethanol co-exposure in adolescent male rats.
Materials And Methods: Adolescent male rats were divided into seven experimental groups with ten rats as follows: 1) vehicle, 2) Nicotine (Nic)-Ethanol (Eth): received Nic (2 mg/kg) and Eth (20%) in drinking water from 21 to 42 days of age, 3-5) Nic-Eth-Vit C 100/200/400: received Nic and Eth from 21 to 42 days of age and received Vit C 100/200/400 mg/kg from 43 to 63 days of age, 6) Nic-Eth-Bupropion (Bup)- Naloxone (Nal): received Nic and Eth from 21 to 42 days of age and received Bup and Nal from 43 to 63 days of age, and 7) Vit C 400 mg/kg: received Vit C 400 mg/kg from 43 to 63 days of age. Behavioral assessments were done by elevated plus maze (EPM), forced swimming test (FST), marble burring test (MBT), and open field tests (OFT).

The amygdala and raphe nuclei, which play crucial roles in mood regulation, are influenced by serotonergic neurotransmission. Alterations in this neurotransmission are associated with mood disorders. Therefore, using immunohistochemistry and quantitative methods this study was designed to evaluate potential alterations in the expression of serotoninergic markers in the amygdala and raphe nuclei of mice with oestrogen receptor β (ERβ) knock out which exhibit increased anxiety as evidenced by reduced locomotion and increased thigmotaxis.

Background: Insomnia, a prevalent sleep disorder, detrimentally affects quality of life and is often challenging to manage with conventional treatments. This study delved into identifying and quantifying the main compounds by employing ultra-performance liquid chromatography-Q-Exactive-Orbitrap mass spectrometry, and further to evaluate the therapeutic potential of Rosa roxburghii folium (RRF) extract, with multiple pharmacological activities. Previous research had hinted at the efficacy of glycosides in influencing the γ-aminobutyric acid (GABAergic) system, which plays a pivotal role in sleep regulation.

Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is a disorder characterized by repeated upper airway collapse during sleep, leading to apneas and/or hypopneas, with associated symptoms like intermittent hypoxia and sleep fragmentation. One of the agents contributing to OSA occurrence and development seems to be serotonin (5-HT). Currently, the research focuses on establishing and interlinking OSA pathogenesis and the severity of the disease on the molecular neurotransmitter omnipresent in the human body-serotonin, its pathway, products, receptors, drugs affecting the levels of serotonin, or genetic predisposition.
