Intrinsic Breakdown Strength: Theoretical Derivation and First-Principles Calculations.

Phys Rev Lett

February 2025

Fudan University, Key Laboratory of Computational Physical Sciences (Ministry of Education), Institute of Computational Physical Sciences, and Department of Physics, Shanghai 200433, China.

Intrinsic breakdown strength (F_{bd}), as the theoretical upper limit of electric field strength that a material can sustain, plays important roles in determining dielectric and safety performance. The well accepted concept is that a larger band gap (E_{g}) often leads to a larger intrinsic breakdown strength. In this work, we analytically derive a simplified model of F_{bd}, showing a linear relationship between F_{bd} and the maximum electron density of states (DOS_{max}) within the energy range spanning from the conduction band minimum (CBM) to CBM+E_{g}.

Neurostimulation devices to treat Alzheimer's disease.

Explor Neurosci

February 2025

Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Purdue University, Indianapolis, IN 46202, USA.

The use of neurostimulation devices for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a growing field. In this review, we examine the mechanism of action and therapeutic indications of these neurostimulation devices in the AD process. Rapid advancements in neurostimulation technologies are providing non-pharmacological relief to patients affected by AD pathology.

This paper investigates the impact of variations in excitation frequency variations on the dielectric properties of coal gangue to enhance identification accuracy in challenging underground conditions. A dielectric identification methodology based on frequency shift characteristics is proposed, focusing on coal gangue samples collected from Zhujidong mine in Huainan mining area, for which a dielectric identification system was designed and constructed. This system facilitates the collection of dielectric response signals from coal gangue at frequencies of 0.

Advancing Power Transformer Cooling: The Role of Fluids and Nanofluids-A Comprehensive Review.

Materials (Basel)

February 2025

TEMA-Centre for Mechanical Technology and Automation, Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Aveiro (UA), Campus Universitário de Santiago, 3810-193 Aveiro, Portugal.

The ongoing pursuit of enhanced efficiency and sustainability in power transformer cooling systems has spurred extensive research into the properties and performance of insulating fluids. This review explores the evolution of transformer cooling technologies, focusing on traditional mineral oils and the emerging roles of alternative fluids, such as natural and synthetic esters, and nanofluids. Mineral oils, though widely used, degrade over time, leading to a reduction in breakdown voltage (BDV) from 46 kV to 30 kV, exhibiting low fire resistance.
