During ovulation, the apical wall of the preovulatory follicle breaks down to facilitate gamete release. In parallel, the residual follicle wall differentiates into a progesterone-producing corpus luteum. Disruption of ovulation, whether through contraceptive intervention or infertility, has implications for women's health.

Article Synopsis
  • - This study aimed to determine if the timing of intrauterine insemination (IUI) with donor sperm, either before or after confirming ovulation, affects pregnancy outcomes for couples using artificial insemination.
  • - Researchers analyzed data from 751 couples over 1,170 IUI cycles, comparing outcomes when insemination occurred within 6-12 hours of an hormonal surge versus after ovulation was confirmed by ultrasound.
  • - Results showed no significant differences in overall pregnancy and live birth rates between the two timing methods, but when excluding certain cases, pre-ovulation insemination showed better outcomes than post-ovulation insemination.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess the effects of intrafollicular treatments with PGE2 and PGF2α on ovulation and progesterone production in mares during early estrus.
  • In Experiment 1, PGE2 led to successful ovulation in all treated mares within 24 hours, while PGF2α resulted in more instances of hemorrhagic anovulatory follicles and lower progesterone levels.
  • In Experiment 2, a higher percentage of control mares became pregnant compared to those treated with PGE2, indicating that while PGE2 triggered ovulation, it negatively impacted pregnancy rates.

Article Synopsis
  • - A scoping review was conducted to analyze existing studies on the effectiveness of acupuncture for infertility, particularly its role in achieving natural conception, focusing on data from multiple databases up to August 2023.
  • - Out of 310 articles reviewed, most studies centered on female infertility, particularly related to conditions like polycystic ovary syndrome and ovulation disorders, with some addressing male infertility.
  • - The meta-analysis indicated that acupuncture showed better results for infertility than the hormone human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG), both alone and in combination, highlighting acupuncture's potential as a treatment option.

Objective: To assess the effect of luteinized unruptured follicles (LUF) on frozen-thawed embryo transfer cycles performed in natural cycles (FET-NC).

Methods: Retrospective cohort study, held in a university hospital with 3415 cycles for frozen-thawed embryo transfer, performed between June 2019 and September 2022. Using propensity score matching, 242 patients with a diagnosis of LUF (LUF group) were matched with 484 ovulated patients (ovulation group).
