Importance: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common, chronic, cardiac arrythmia in older US adults. It is not known whether AF is independently associated with increased risk of retinal stroke (central retinal artery occlusion), a subtype of ischemic stroke that causes severely disabling visual loss in most cases and is a harbinger of further vascular events.

Objective: To determine whether there is an association between AF and retinal stroke.

: Ocular proprioception is implicated in balance control and heterophoria is associated with abnormal posture, though previous research focused mainly on the role of vertical phoria and the use of vertical prisms. This study aims to evaluate whether ocular misalignment and prismatic correction of horizontal phoria affect posture. : Sixty-nine ( = 69) young healthy subjects were included and equally divided by horizontal distance phoria: orthophoria ( = 23), esophoria ( = 23) and exophoria ( = 23).

Purpose: Periorbital necrotizing fasciitis (NF) and sinusitis-related orbital cellulitis (OC) present with common clinical features, although the management algorithms for these ailments vary considerably. Previous investigations have failed to identify biomarkers that distinguish between these entities. This study was designed to explore the role of the derived neutrophil-to-lymphocyte and neutrophil-to-platelet ratios in discerning NF from OC.
