Trials were performed in 1980 and 1981 to test a new methodical procedure of measuring heat flow with Alfameter and to evaluate the dissipation of heat via the floor in piglet finishing houses with three large pig herds. It was demonstrated during the period of the study that slatted floors dissipated much more heat from the house, as compared with solid floors. The comparison of the density of heat flow over steel slats and plastic slats showed that the plastic slats wasted less heat: in the winter season the difference was 65 to 125 W/m2 and in summer 20 to 75 W/m2. In the houses with steel slats the comparison of heated and unheated lying place showed that the heat flow emitted from the lying place reduced the dissipation of heat via the slats.

Increasing demand for high-purity fine chemicals and a drive for process intensification of large-scale separations have driven significant work on the development of highly engineered porous materials with promise for sorption-based separations. While sorptive separations in porous materials offer energy-efficient alternatives to longstanding thermal-based methods, the particulate nature of many of these sorbents has sometimes limited their large-scale deployment in high-throughput applications such as gas separations, for which the necessary high feed flow rates and gas velocities accrue prohibitive operational costs. These processability limitations have been historically addressed through powder shaping methods aimed at the fabrication of structured sorbent contactors based on pellets, beads or monoliths, commonly obtained as extrudates.

The challenges faced by sludge pyrolysis units, including poor heat transfer efficiency and uneven heating of material groups, significantly hinder the green and low-carbon transformation and sustainable development of sludge treatment. The suspension self-rotation of sludge particles in a cyclone enhances particle heat transfer, thereby improving the pyrolysis process. In cardiovascular research, electromagnetic fields generated by Riga plates are utilized to study or manipulate blood flow dynamics, which is particularly crucial in developing treatments for conditions such as arterial plaque deposition and understanding blood behavior under varied flow conditions. This research predicts the flow patterns of blood enhanced with gold and maghemite nanoparticles (gold-maghemite/blood) in an electromagnetic microchannel influenced by Riga plates with a temperature gradient that decays exponentially, under sudden changes in pressure gradient. The flow modeling includes key physical influences like radiation heat emission and Darcy drag forces in porous media, with the flow mathematically represented through unsteady partial differential equations solved using the Laplace transform (LT) method.
