Protective effects of berbamine against arginase-1 deficiency-induced injury in human brain microvascular endothelial cells.

Front Pharmacol

January 2025

Department of Geriatric Medicine, The Seventh Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University, Shenzhen, Guangdong, China.

Endothelial cell dysfunction plays a crucial role in the early development of cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD). Arginase-1 (ARG1) is expressed in endothelial cells, and its deficiency may exacerbate cerebrovascular damage by increasing reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, thereby inducing endothelial cell apoptosis. Berbamine (BBM) has shown potential in neuroprotection and cardiovascular disease prevention.

Antibiotic-resistant Gram-negative bacteria are an increasing threat to human health. Strategies to restore antibiotic efficacy include targeting multidrug efflux pumps by competitive efflux pump inhibitors. These could be derived from natural substrates of these efflux systems.

Preparation and evaluation of MSR-1 bioinoculant on the growth and productivity of (L.) R. Wilczek.

3 Biotech

February 2025

Marine Biotechnology and Bioproducts Laboratory, Department of Biomedical Sciences, School of Biosciences and Technology, Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore, 632014 Tamil Nadu India.

Unlabelled: Recently, there has been a growing interest in the application of beneficial microorganisms to enhance crop performance.  (MSR-1) are spiral-shaped, gram-negative bacteria that exhibit magnetotaxis with the help of magnetosomes (iron oxide or iron sulphide). They have exhibited biomedical and environmental applications; however, the agricultural utilization of these strains is yet to be explored.

U32 is an industrial strain capable of producing therapeutically useful rifamycin SV. In early days of fermentation studies, nitrate was found to increase the yield of rifamycin along with globally, affecting both carbon and nitrogen metabolism in favor of antibiotic biosynthesis; thus, the (NSE) hypothesis was proposed. Although GlnR is likely the master regulator of the pleotropic effect of NSE, the global metabolism affected by NSE has never been systematically examined.

Background: Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic and recurrent digestive tract disease that can lead to significant morbidity and mortality. The pathogenesis of UC is intricately associated with the presence of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Prussian blue (PB), an inorganic nanozyme with potent antioxidant properties, has been extensively applied in the treatment of various inflammatory conditions and tumors.
