This study aims to compare the effects and mechanisms of the standard decoction and formula granules of Paeoniae Radix Rubra in regulating the metabolism in the rat model of heat toxin and blood stasis. SD rats were randomized into control, model, standard decoction, and formula granules groups. After 14 days of administration, the rats in the latter three groups were subjected to subcutaneous injection with carrageenan and intraperitoneal injection with bacterial lipopolysaccharide for the modeling of heat toxin and blood stasis.

Invasive non-typhoidal infections are responsible for >75 000 deaths/year and >500 000 cases/year globally. Seventy-five percent of these cases occur in Sub-Saharan Africa, an increasing number of which are from multi-drug resistant strains. Interactions between bacteria and platelets can lead to thrombus formation, which can be beneficial for control of infection (immunothrombosis), or harmful through uncontrolled inflammation and organ damage (thromboinflammation).

Purpose: Exercise has been shown to reduce platelet reactivity and increase platelet sensitivity to prostacyclin, an endothelium-derived inhibitor of platelet activation, in middle-aged men and women. It is currently unknown if these beneficial effects can also be observed in young women and the intracellular mechanisms involved have not been identified. In this study, the feasibility of detecting changes in platelet reactivity, prostacyclin sensitivity and cAMP signalling were tested.

The relationship between alcohol consumption and incident ischemic heart disease and stroke is characterized by a J- or U-shape. This denotes that light drinking has a preventive effect on cardiovascular diseases. Effects of alcohol drinking on lipid metabolism including an increase in HDL cholesterol concentration and a decrease in LDL cholesterol concentration are the main reasons for the anti-atherosclerotic action of alcohol.

Human Disabled-2 regulates thromboxane A signaling for efficient hemostasis in thrombocytopenia.

Nat Commun

Department of Medical Biotechnology and Laboratory Science, College of Medicine, Chang Gung University, Taoyuan, 333, Taiwan, Republic of China.

Article Synopsis
  • Understanding platelet protein functions improves diagnosis and treatment of platelet disorders.
  • Researchers used human Disabled-2 knock-in (hDAB2-KI) mice to study how hDab2 regulates platelet function and bleeding in cases of low platelet counts (thrombocytopenia).
  • Findings show that hDab2 enhances certain platelet responses, leading to reduced bleeding time and indicating its significant role in managing bleeding severity related to thrombocytopenia.
