The regulation of oxidative stress in living cells is essential for maintaining cellular processes and signal transduction. However, developing straightforward strategies to activate oxidative stress-sensitive membrane channels in situ poses significant challenges. In this study, we presented a chemiluminescence resonance energy transfer (CRET) system based on a conjugated oligomer, oligo(p-phenylenevinylene)-imidazole (OPV-Im), designed for the activation of transient receptor potential melastatin 2 (TRPM2) calcium channels in situ by superoxide anion (O2•-) without requiring external light sources.

Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) is a critical intracellular energy currency that plays a key role in various cellular processes and is closely associated with numerous diseases. Similarly, biothiols such as glutathione (GSH), cysteine (Cys), and homocysteine (Hcy) are integral to many physiological and pathological processes due to their strong redox properties. Simultaneous discrimination and detection of ATP and biothiols offer valuable insights into the pathogenesis of conditions such as epilepsy and liver injury.

Bile duct brush cytology is a widely used and essential method for evaluating biliary tract lesions, although it remains challenging for pathologists. Liquid-based preparations provide a better vision of morphology and enable the preparation of cell blocks, thereby enhancing reliability. However, the establishment of reproducible interpretation criteria and utilization of cell blocks remain limited.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is an incurable neurodegenerative disease that affects neurons in the brain and spinal cord, causing loss of muscle control, and eventually leads to death. Phosphorylated transactive response DNA binding protein-43 (TDP-43) is the major pathological protein in both sporadic and familial ALS, forming cytoplasmic aggregates in over 95% of cases. Of the 10-15% of ALS cases that are familial, mutations in TDP-43 represent about 5% of those with a family history.

Aim: Young women exhibit lower rates of cardiovascular disease (CVD) than age-matched men, a protective effect often attributed to estrogen's influence on cardiac and mitochondrial function. The risk of CVD increases in post-menopausal women, likely due to estrogen deficiency and aldosterone's negative effects, including those on mitochondria and other cellular targets. This study aimed to explore the link between estrogen deficiency and mitochondrial dysfunction in cardiac health.
