Background: Primary blast lung injury is a common and severe consequence of explosion events, characterized by immediate and delayed effects such as apnea and rapid shallow breathing. The overpressure generated by blasts leads to alveolar and capillary damage, resulting in ventilation-perfusion mismatch and increased intrapulmonary shunting. This reduces the effective gas exchange area, causing hypoxemia and hypercapnia.

Pulmonary arteriovenous malformations (PAVMs) universally develop in patients with single ventricle congenital heart disease. Single ventricle PAVMs have been recognized for over 50 years but remain poorly understood. Background: Acute respiratory distress syndrome in the elderly with COVID-19 complicated by airway obstruction with sputum and mucus, and cases of asphyxia with blood, serous fluid, pus, or meconium in newborns and people of different ages can sometimes cause hypoxemia and death from hypoxic damage to brain cells, because the medical standard does not include intrapulmonary injections of oxygen-producing solutions. The physical-chemical repurposing of hydrogen peroxide from an antiseptic to an oxygen-producing antihypoxant offers hope for the development of new drugs.

Methods: This manuscript is a meta-analysis performed according to PRISMA guidelines.

We aimed to compare respiratory mechanics and gas exchange in ventilated extremely preterm infants born before and after 24 weeks of gestation.

Methods: Secondary analysis of two prospective observational cohort studies, comparing respiratory mechanics and indices of gas exchange in ventilated infants born at 22-24 weeks of gestation (N=14) compared to infants born at 25-27 weeks (N=37).
