Large diurnal temperature changes (ΔT) (or the diurnal temperature range (DTR)) in surface soils, ranging from 5°C to often greater than 20°C, are generally acknowledged to occur yet largely disregarded in studies that seek to understand how temperature affects microbially-mediated carbon and nitrogen cycling processes. The soil DTR is globally significant at depths of 30 cm or less, occurring from spring through summer in temperate biomes, during summer periods in the arctic, and year-round in the tropics. Thus, although temperature has long been considered an important factor in controlling microbial processes, our understanding of its effects remains incomplete when considering natural soil temperature cycles.

Hypobaric hypoxia (HH) is regarded as the main cause of high-altitude pulmonary edema (HAPE), however, the effect of diurnal temperature fluctuation and exercise has been overlooked. The aim of current study was to elucidate the role of diurnal temperature fluctuation and exercise in the development of HAPE and establish a reliable experimental rat model. Male SPF Wistar rats were assigned to control group (1400 m, 25 °C) and five model groups: Model Ⅰ group (6000 m, 25 °C), Model Ⅱ group (6000 m, 2 °C), Model Ⅲ group (6000 m, 12 °C/2 °C light/dark cycle), Model IV group (6000 m, 2 °C, and exercise) and Model V group (6000 m, 12 °C/2 °C light/dark cycle, and exercise).

The circadian clock orchestrates a broad spectrum of physiological processes, crucially modulating human biology across an approximate 24-hour cycle. The circadian disturbances precipitated by modern lifestyle contribute to the occurrence of low back pain (LBP), mainly ascribed to intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD). The intervertebral disc (IVD) exhibits rhythmic physiological behaviors, with fluctuations in osmotic pressure and hydration levels that synchronized with the diurnal cycle of activity and rest.
