We have used RNases T1, T2 and A to digest two aminoacyl-tRNAs, Escherichia coli Phe-tRNAPhe and E. coli Met- tRNAMetm both in the naked forms and in ternary complexes with E. coli elongation factor Tu (EF-Tu) and GTP. An analysis of the 'footprinting' results has led to an interpretation that has localized the part of the three-dimensional structure of aminoacyl-tRNA covered by the protein in the ternary complex. In terms of the three-dimensional structure of tRNA established for yeast tRNAPhe, EF-Tu covers the aa-end, aa-stem, T-stem, and extra loop on the side of the L-shaped tRNA that exposes the extra loop.

Human metapneumovirus (HMPV) is an important causative agent of respiratory tract disease. Fundamental knowledge of the interaction between HMPV and the innate immune system could lead to the design of novel antiviral therapies. Previously, we demonstrated that HMPV M2-2 deletion mutants had hypermutated genomes and contained defective interfering particles (DIs), which are potent inducers of the IFN response.

Hypusinated and unhypusinated isoforms of the translation factor eIF5A exert distinct effects in models of pancreas development and function.

Hypusination of eukaryotic translation initiation factor 5A (eIF5A) is essential for its role in translation elongation and termination. Although the function of hypusinated eIF5A (eIF5A) in cellular proliferation is well-characterized, the role of its unhypusinated form (eIF5A) remains unclear. We hypothesized that eIF5A exerts independent, negative effects on cellular replication and metabolism, distinct from the loss of eIF5A.

Accelerated rehabilitation following facial nerve injury presents unique clinical challenges. This study evaluates the therapeutic effects of concentrated growth factor (CGF) on facial nerve recovery in a rabbit model and on RSC96 Schwann cells. Characterization of the CGF membrane (CGFM) revealed a three-dimensional fibrin network with embedded platelets, and representative growth factors, including TGF-β1, PDGF-BB, IGF-1, bFGF, and VEGF, were detected.

Mycodiversity in a micro-habitat: twelve species, including four new taxa, isolated from uredinia of coffee leaf rust, .

Fungal Syst Evol

December 2024

Departamento de Fitopatologia, Universidade Federal de Viçosa, Viçosa, MG, 36570-900, Brazil.

During surveys in the centres of origin of the coffee leaf rust (CLR), in Africa, as well as in its exotic range in Brazil, 23 isolates of the genus were obtained from uredinial pustules. Using a phylogenetic analysis of all isolates involving a combination of partial sequences of the internal transcribed spacer region of rDNA (ITS) and two gene regions: actin ( and translation elongation factor-1α (), 12 species were delimited; including four new species - , , and . GCPSR criteria were employed for species recognition, supported by morphological and cultural characters.
