Lower body negative pressure (LBNP) has been used for decades in humans to model arterial baroreceptor unloading and represents a powerful tool for evaluating cardiovascular responses to orthostatic challenge. However, LBNP studies in animals have been limited to conditions of anesthesia or sedation, where cardiovascular reflexes are altered. Given the consequent uncertainties, the usefulness of LBNP studies in these preclinical models has been severely hampered.

Advances in the Applications of Clinoptilolite-Rich Tuffs.

Materials (Basel)

March 2024

Faculty of Ecology and Environmental Protection, University "Union-Nikola Tesla", Cara Dušana 62-64, 11158 Belgrade, Serbia.

Article Synopsis
  • The text discusses the versatile properties of clinoptilolite-rich tuffs (ZT), highlighting their adsorptive, catalytic, and antibacterial capabilities.
  • ZT can be transformed into Fe-containing versions (Fe-ZT) for applications such as removing contaminants from water and enhancing mushroom growth through selenium conversion.
  • Additionally, ZT and its modified forms can retain essential nutrients in soils and are effective in cleaning toxic metals and improving water disinfection.

Effects of telmisartan on metabolic syndrome components: a comprehensive review.

Biomed Pharmacother

February 2024

Pharmaceutical Research Center, Pharmaceutical Technology Institute, Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, Mashhad, Iran; Department of Pharmacodynamics and Toxicology, School of Pharmacy, Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, Mashhad, Iran. Electronic address:

Telmisartan is an antagonist of the angiotensin II receptor used in the management of hypertension (alone or in combination with other antihypertensive agents. It belongs to the drug class of angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs). Among drugs of this class, telmisartan shows particular pharmacologic properties, including a longer half-life than any other angiotensin II receptor blockers that bring higher and persistent antihypertensive activity.

Clozapine-related tachycardia: A conundrum to identify and treat.

Australas Psychiatry

February 2024

Peel and Rockingham Kwinana (PaRK) Mental Health Service, South Metropolitan Health Service, Rockingham, WA, Australia.

Objective: This study examined the rates and persistence of clozapine-induced tachycardia and heart-rate differences in patients treated with β-blockers in the largest sample of patients with a psychotic disorder to date.

Method: An audit of medical files for 101 patients who attended a clozapine community clinic and analysis of monthly measurements of resting heart rates.

Results: 51% met the clinical criteria for tachycardia.

Interpreting permeability as a function of free drug fraction: The case studies of cyclodextrins and liposomes.

Eur J Pharm Sci

October 2023

Department of Pharmacy, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Oslo, Sem Saelands vei 3, 0371 Oslo, Norway. Electronic address:

In order to solubilize poorly soluble active pharmaceutical ingredients, various strategies have been implemented over the years, including the use of nanocarriers, such as cyclodextrins and liposomes. However, improving a drug's apparent solubility does not always translate to enhanced bioavailability. This work aimed to investigate to which extent complexation with cyclodextrins and incorporation into liposomes influence drug in vitro permeability and to find a mechanistic description of the permeation process.
