In dogs with chronic duodenal and gastric fistula the effect of somatostatin (SST) on the endogenous release of secretin and pancretic polypeptide (PP) was investigated. The release of secretin following intraduodenal acid administration was significantly reduced by SST. While PP increased significantly after a test meal, its release was completely suppressed by SST.
