The reactions of cellular immunity to malignant gliomas of the rat brain were studied by measuring the electrophoretic mobility of indicator cells (the EPM test). The appearance of sensitization coincided in time with the development of the glioma's own vascular network possessing no barrier function. The sensitization was constant in character and persisted till the death of the tumor-carriers. The EPM test did not reveal qualitative differences in sensitization in intracerebral and subcutaneous glioma growth.

Anxiety, a future-oriented negative emotional state, is characterized by heightened arousal and vigilance. The elevated plus maze (EPM) test is a widely used assay of anxiety-related behaviors in rodents and shows a phenomenon where animals with prior test experience tend to avoid open arms in retest sessions. While this one-trial tolerance (OTT) phenomenon limits the reuse of the EPM test, the potential mechanisms remain unsolved.

Background: Cypermethrin (CYP), a synthetic pyrethroid widely used to control plant pests, has been associated with various diseases in humans exposed to pesticides, either directly or indirectly. This study aimed to examine the effects of CYP on learning and memory functions, as well as anxiety-like behavior.

Methods: Forty male Wistar rats (8 weeks old) were randomly assigned to 4 groups: The first group served as the control, while the other three groups received different doses of CYP (5, 20, and 80 mg/kg) via gavage once daily for one month.

Introduction: Stress-evoked dysfunctions of the frontal cortex (FC) are correlated with changes in the functioning of the glutamatergic system, and evidence demonstrates that noradrenergic transmission is an important regulator of this process. In the current study, we adopted a restraint stress (RS) model in male Wistar rats to investigate whether the blockade of β1 adrenergic receptors (β1AR) with betaxolol (BET) in stressed animals influences the body's stress response and the expression of selected signaling proteins in the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC).

Methods: The study was divided into two parts.

Background: Visceral pain sensitization and emotional reactions due to irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) occur frequently in the general population. Oxidative stress plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis of IBS. Previous studies have demonstrated that activation of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARγ) has analgesic effects.

The study investigated the anxiolytic, antidepressant, sedative/hypnotic and in silico molecular docking properties of the synthetic ephedrine-based derivative of thiourea, 3-benzothioyl-1-(3-hydroxy-3-phenyl-3-propyl)-1-methylthiourea. Safety profile of the compound at various doses was determined in an acute toxicity test. Results showed significant anti-anxiety effects of the compound in all mice studies.
