Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo, Nigeria.
Background: In recent decades, epidemiological and experimental studies have looked into the role of pesticides, particularly the herbicide paraquat, in the development of Parkinson's disease. Horseradish tree (Moringa oleifera) is an ethnobotanical plant with lots of therapeutic potential, but there is a dearth of information on the bioactive properties of the seed alkaloid extracts.
Method: This study examined the modulatory effects of various concentrations of an alkaloid extract from the seeds of Horseradish Tree (Moringa oleifera) on the survival rate of flies exposed to paraquat, as well as certain biochemical and molecular markers related to Parkinson's disease in the heads of the flies.

Background: Despite increasing knowledge of the etiology of neurodegenerative diseases, translation of these benefits into therapeutic advances for Alzheimer's Disease and related diseases (ADRD) has been slow. Drug repurposing is a promising strategy for identifying new uses for approved drugs beyond their initial indications. We developed a high-throughput drug screening platform aimed at identifying drugs capable of reducing proteotoxicity in vivo (Aß toxicity in Caenorhabditis elegans) AND inhibiting microglial inflammation (TNF-alpha IL-6), both implicated in driving AD(figure attached with sample of results in C.

Background: Global epidemiological studies involving over nine million participants have shown a 35% lower incidence of Alzheimer's Disease (AD) in older cancer survivors compared to those without a history of cancer. This inverse relationship, consistent across recent studies with methodological controls, suggests that cancer itself, rather than cancer treatments, may offer protective factors against AD. This insight opens avenues for novel therapeutic strategies targeting early AD by harnessing cancer-associated protective factors.

Background: Loneliness has been linked to cognitive decline and an elevated risk of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Previous studies measured loneliness at a single point time, which may not accurately capture the longitudinal changes of different loneliness types (e.g.

University of Nairobi, Nairobi, Nairobi, Kenya.
Background: The recruitment of individuals for Alzheimer's disease (AD) genetic studies particularly those with low socioeconomic status, and living in rural areas remains a challenge in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), due to stigma-related cultural beliefs that hinder their participation. The Recruitment and Retention of Alzheimer's Disease Diversity Genetic Cohorts in the ADSP (READD - ADSP) project is a case-control genetic epidemiological study involving individuals who are living with AD and disease - free healthy control individuals. The aim is to build a resource that greatly expands Alzheimer's disease genetic studies in the currently underrepresented African ancestry populations and Hispanic/Latinx individuals.
