Changes in reduced glutathione levels in liver, lung and whole blood of female Swiss-Webster mice with age were determined. In addition, glutathione content, and glutathione S-transferase and glutathione reductase activities of erythrocytes and lymphocytes of mice as a function of age were examined. Reduced glutathione content increased in liver, lung, whole blood, erythrocytes and lymphocytes with age from 3 to 9 months, reached a maximum level at 9 months of age and decreased thereafter with advanced age in all tissues. Glutathione S-transferase and glutathione reductase activities in erythrocytes and lymphocytes increased with age from 3 to 9 months, reached maximum activities at 9 months and decreased thereafter with advanced age. The glutathione content of erythrocytes from animals 18 months of age decreased by 56% as compared to 9 month old mice, while the activities of glutathione S-transferase and glutathione reductase decreased by 56 and 48%, respectively, over the same age span.

Background: Inflammation plays a significant role in the development and progression of type 2 diabetes (T2D). Empagliflozin, an SGLT2 inhibitor, has shown some anti-inflammatory effects in patients with T2D. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of empagliflozin on some inflammatory markers in T2D.

Background/objectives: The objective of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of the lactate dehydrogenase-to-albumin ratio (LAR) in adult-onset Still's disease (AOSD) and compare it with other inflammatory indices, using patients with fever of unknown origin (FUO) as a control group due to their overlapping clinical features with AOSD. The study also compared LAR's diagnostic performance with other inflammatory indices like the serum immune-inflammatory index (SII), ferritin/erythrocyte sedimentation rate (FER), CRP/albumin ratio (CAR), platelet/lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR), as well as its combinations with FER, PLR, and ferritin (LAR + FER, LAR + PLR, LAR + ferritin).
Methods: A retrospective evaluation was conducted on 70 patients with fever of unknown cause and 78 patients with AOSD, admitted between January 2000 and December 2023 in a tertiary care hospital.

Introduction: Ovarian cancer is a lethal disease with low survival rates for women diagnosed in advanced stages. Current cancer immunotherapies are not efficient in ovarian cancer, and there is therefore a significant need for novel treatment options. The β-galactoside-binding lectin, Galectin-3, is involved in different immune processes and has been associated with poor outcome in various cancer diagnoses.

Microalgae have well-established health benefits for farmed fish. Thus, this study aims to explore the potential protective effects of , is, and against pyrogallol-induced hematological, hepatic, and renal biomarkers in African catfish (), as well as the histopathological changes in the liver and kidney. Fish weighing 200 ± 25 g were divided into several groups: group 1 served as the control, group 2 was exposed to 10 mg/L of pyrogallol, and groups 3, 4, and 5 were exposed to the same concentration of pyrogallol, supplemented with at 20 g/kg diet, is at 50 g/kg diet, and at 5 g/kg diet, respectively, for 15 days.

Purposes: We analyzed the acute-phase response in unilateral thyroidectomy by comparing the transoral endoscopic thyroidectomy vestibular approach (TOEVA) with the minimally invasive video-assisted thyroidectomy (MIVAT).
Methods: Patients were randomly assigned to undergo either TOEVA or MIVAT, after we obtained their written informed consent to participate in this study. Blood count, C-reactive protein (CRP), erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), interleukin-1β (IL-1β), IL-6 and tumor necrosis factor (TNF-) were measured before surgery and then 4, 24, and 48 h after surgery.
