Amongst the pulmonary radiological abnormalities more or less suggestive of pneumoconiosis seen in 1 044 miners from Lorraine, there were 976 cases of typical pneumoconiosis: 154 "P.M.F." forms and 890 forms with small round opacities. In the other 68 cases, hence in a proportion of 1 in 15, the X-ray appearance consisted of small irregular opacities which have only been introduced by the I.L.O. into the international nomenclature on pneumoconiosis since 1968 (symbols: s, t, u, according to their size). These forms with small irregular abnormalities are associated with obstructive spirographic ventilatory disorders and a decrease in CO transfer (steady-state) on average greater than those seen in forms with classical round opacities. Age is greater and tobacco consumption higher, but long exposure to pneumoconiosis risk (26.9 years, on average) must also be taken into consideration in interpreting the singular prevalence of

Background: X-ray grating-based dark-field imaging can sense the small angle scattering caused by object's micro-structures. This technique is sensitive to the porous microstructure of lung alveoli and has the potential to detect lung diseases at an early stage. Up to now, a human-scale dark-field CT (DF-CT) prototype has been built for lung imaging.

Prediction of Radiation Therapy Induced Cardiovascular Toxicity from Pretreatment CT Images in Patients with Thoracic Malignancy via an Optimal Biomarker Approach.

Acad Radiol

January 2025

Medical Image Processing Group, 602 Goddard building, 3710 Hamilton Walk, Department of Radiology, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA 19104 (M.L., M.A., J.K.U., Y.T., C.W., N.P., S.M., D.A.T.). Electronic address:

Rationale And Objectives: Cardiovascular toxicity is a well-known complication of thoracic radiation therapy (RT), leading to increased morbidity and mortality, but existing techniques to predict cardiovascular toxicity have limitations. Predictive biomarkers of cardiovascular toxicity may help to maximize patient outcomes.

Methods: The machine learning optimal biomarker (OBM) method was employed to predict development of cardiotoxicity (based on serial echocardiographic measurements of left ventricular ejection fraction and longitudinal strain) from computed tomography (CT) images in patients with thoracic malignancy undergoing RT.

Background: Most patients undergoing pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) develop recurrence. No previous studies have investigated predictors of local-only recurrence following PD for PDAC. Our study aimed to determine timing, pattern and predictors of any-site and local-only recurrence following PD for PDAC.

Long term outcome after surgical tetralogy of Fallot repair at young age: Longitudinal follow-up up to 50 years after surgery.

Int J Cardiol

January 2025

Department of Cardiology, Cardiovascular Institute, Thorax Center, Erasmus MC, Rotterdam, the Netherlands; European Reference Network for Rare, Low Prevalence and Complex Diseases of the Heart (ERN GUARD-Heart), Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

Background: Little is known about the very long-term outcome in Tetralogy of Fallot (ToF) patients.

Objectives: To prospectively evaluate clinical outcome and quality-of-life after surgical repair of ToF.

Methods: Single-centre, longitudinal cohort-study evaluating every decade 144 ToF patients who underwent surgical repair <15 years of age between 1968 and 1980.

Objective: We are still in search of new therapeutic options for COVID-19 to prevent new infections, enable fast recovery and reduce the long-lasting symptoms or sequelae. This study aimed to investigate the short- and long-term effects of inhaled aviptadil on hospitalized, adult COVID-19 patients.

Methods: A multicenter, prospective, placebo-controlled, comparative, randomized, double-blind clinical trial was conducted.
