Micro-inflammation related gene signatures are associated with clinical features and immune status of fibromyalgia.

J Transl Med

September 2023

Division of General Internal Medicine, Department of Family Medicine, Peking Union Medical College Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, State Key Laboratory of Complex Severe and Rare Diseases (Peking Union Medical College Hospital), Beijing, 100730, China.

Background: Fibromyalgia (FM) is a multifaceted disease. Along with the genetic, environmental and neuro-hormonal factors, inflammation has been assumed to have role in the pathogenesis of FM. The aim of the present study was to explore the differences in clinical features and pathophysiology of FM patients under different inflammatory status.

A Neuro-hormonal Circuit for Paternal Behavior Controlled by a Hypothalamic Network Oscillation.

Cell

August 2020

Department of Neuroscience, Biomedicum B4, Karolinska Institutet, Solnavägen 9, 171 65 Stockholm, Sweden; Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics, Stockholm University, Svante Arrhenius väg 16C, 106 91 Stockholm, Sweden. Electronic address:

Parental behavior is pervasive throughout the animal kingdom and essential for species survival. However, the relative contribution of the father to offspring care differs markedly across animals, even between related species. The mechanisms that organize and control paternal behavior remain poorly understood.

The initiation of labour at term gestation: Physiology and practice implications.

Best Pract Res Clin Obstet Gynaecol

August 2020

Faculty of Medicine, The University of Queensland, Brisbane QLD 4072 Australia. Electronic address:

Little is known about the physiology of labour onset at term, and there is a debate about what signs and symptoms should be used to define it. In low resource settings, particularly for remote and rural communities, delay in recognising labour onset may mean a delay in seeking a skilled birth attendant. This chapter presents the most recent evidence about the physiology of labour onset, including the complex neuro-hormonal, biophysical, psychological and emotional factors that contribute.

Perspective: A Neuro-Hormonal Systems Approach to Understanding the Complexity of Cryptorchidism Susceptibility.

Front Endocrinol (Lausanne)

July 2018

School of Biosciences and School of Veterinary Medicine and Science, University of Nottingham, Sutton Bonington, United Kingdom.

Nonsyndromic cryptorchidism is a common multifactorial, condition with long-term risks of subfertility and testicular cancer. Revealing the causes of cryptorchidism will likely improve prediction and prevention of adverse outcomes. Herein we provide our current perspective of cryptorchidism complexity in a synthesis of cumulative clinical and translational data generated by ourselves and others.

Childhood maltreatment and high dietary fat intake behaviors in adulthood: A birth cohort study.

Child Abuse Negl

October 2017

Faculty of Medicine, School of Public Health, The University of Queensland, Public Health Building, Herston, 4006 Queensland, Australia; Queensland Alcohol and Drug Research and Education Centre, The University of Queensland, Herston, 4006 Queensland, Australia; Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, School of Social Sciences, The University of Queensland, St. Lucia, 4072 Queensland, Australia.

Childhood maltreatment has been associated with a wide range of chronic medical conditions including obesity, other metabolic events and eating disorders. However, little is known about the association between childhood maltreatment and high dietary fat intake. This study addresses the extent to which co-occurring and specific forms of substantiated childhood maltreatment are associated with self-reported high dietary fat intake in adulthood and whether there is a gender-childhood maltreatment interaction in predicting this association.
