Fibronectin, a high-molecular-weight glycoprotein occurring in plasma and on the surface of many cells, is involved in cell adhesion and other cell-surface phenomena. Vitamin A deficiency in rats resulted in a threefold increase in the concentration of fibronectin in serum, as measured immunochemically. In vitamin A-depleted human subjects, on the other hand, no correlation could be found between plasma retinol and fibronectin levels.

Unlabelled: Very low birth weight (VLBW) preterm newborns lack some nutrients such as vitamin D (VD), which is important in the function and development of different systems.
Objective: To evaluate serum levels of 25-OH-VD in VLBW newborns and to describe the possible association between its deficit and frequent morbidities in this population.
Patients And Methods: Cross-sectional study of VLBW newborns (< 1,500 g and/or < 32 weeks of gestational age).
Unlabelled: Children with chronic respiratory diseases (CRD) are at high risk of vitamin D deficiency, which can be aggravated in those hospitalized for prolonged periods, a group with unknown prevalence.
Objective: to determine the vitamin D status and the risk factors in children with CRD hospitalized for prolonged periods.
Patients And Method: Cross-sectional study carried out at the Hospital Josefina Martinez from September to December 2012, in children with CRD.

Vitamin B12 deficiency is a potentially severe condition with clinical manifestations ranging from nonspecific symptoms, such as asthenia and glossitis, to severe hematological problems, including pancytopenia and megaloblastic anemia. One of the rare phenomena associated with this condition is pseudo-thrombotic microangiopathy (pseudo-TMA), which can mimic diseases such as thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP), leading to possible misdiagnosis and inappropriate treatment. In this article, we present the case of a 62-year-old man with a history of intravenous drug use, untreated hepatitis C, smoking, and alcoholism.

Background: Biological evidence has revealed antitumor effect of vitamin D, but whether it could predict the response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) in breast cancer (BC) patients remains inconclusive. The aim was to investigate the association between pretreatment vitamin D level and response to NAC and subsequent survival outcomes in BC patients.
Materials And Methods: The authors systematically searched the Medline, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science databases and clinical trial registries to identify relevant articles from inception to 8 October 2024.
