Compound Optimal Design for Online Item Calibration Under the Two-Parameter Logistic Model.

Appl Psychol Meas

January 2025

School of Computer and Information Engineering, Jiangxi Normal University, Nanchang, China.

Under the theory of sequential design, compound optimal design with two optimality criteria can be used to solve the problem of efficient calibration of item parameters of item response theory model. In order to efficiently calibrate item parameters in computerized testing, a compound optimal design is proposed for the simultaneous estimation of item difficulty and discrimination parameters under the two-parameter logistic model, which adaptively focuses on optimizing the parameter which is difficult to estimate. The compound optimal design using the acceptance probability can provide ability design points to optimize the item difficulty and discrimination parameters, respectively.

Significance: The spatial distribution of the photosensitizing drug concentration is an important parameter for predicting the photodynamic therapy (PDT) outcome. Current diffuse fluorescence tomography methods lack accuracy in quantifying drug concentration. The development of accurate methods for monitoring the temporal evolution of the drug distribution in tissue can advance the real-time light dosimetry in PDT of tumors, leading to better treatment outcomes.

The global aviation industry faced unprecedented challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, the international civil aviation industry now has strong incentives to prevent and control future pandemics. It is almost unbelievable that the headquarters of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) is located right next to the headquarters of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

Is Bone Cement Implantation Syndrome Actually Caused by Cement? A Systematic Review of the Literature Using the Bradford-Hill Criteria.

J Arthroplasty

January 2025

Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, University of Virginia, 2280 Ivy Road, Charlottesville, VA, 22903, United States of America.

Introduction: Debate surrounding the use of cemented femoral components in hip arthroplasty persists. A proposed risk of cement fixation is bone cement implantation syndrome (BCIS), a phenomenon characterized by intraoperative hypotension, hypoxia, and/or cardiovascular collapse. The purpose of this study was to analyze the literature to determine if enough evidence exists to support a causal relationship between cement and BCIS.

Deoxynivalenol (DON) is one of the most harmful mycotoxins that poses great health threats to human and animals. Herein, a simple and sensitive magnetic beads-based fluorescent biosensor was successfully prepared for detection of DON in cereals. A stable double-stranded DNA (dsDNA, biotin-sDNA+FAM-cDNA/AP) was formed on the surface of streptavidin-coated magnetic beads (SMBs).
