Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterised by cognitive decline, memory loss, and impaired daily functioning. As the global population ages, the prevalence of AD continues to rise, emphasising the urgent need for effective preventive and therapeutic strategies. Carotenoids, a group of naturally occurring pigments with antioxidant properties, have gained attention for their potential neuroprotective effects.

Background: The association of serum cholesterol with cognitive performance is controversial. Besides, little is known about the association of triglycerides to HDL cholesterol ratio (TG/HDL-c) with cognitive performance. We aimed to verify the association of baseline cholesterol, triglyceride, and TG/HDL-c levels with cognitive decline in the Brazilian Longitudinal Study of Adult Health (ELSA-Brasil) during eight years of follow-up.

Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common etiology of dementia. As the progression of the disease may be slowed down by disease-modifying therapies, but not stopped, research identifying further therapeutic approaches is necessary. Due to the multifactorial etiology of AD, targeting modifiable risk factors for dementia, including diet, is a starting point for preventive interventions.

Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disorder with significant environmental factors, including diet, that influence its onset and progression. While the ketogenic diet (KD) holds promise in reducing metabolic risks and potentially affecting AD progression, only a few studies have explored the KD's molecular impact for markers of AD therapeutic potential. The BEAM diet study simultaneously profiled the KD's effect on the lipidome, blood and cerebrospinal metabolome, and microbiome of both cognitively impaired and cognitively normal individuals.

For this study, we examined relations between plasma biomarkers Aβ 42/40, pTau 181, NfL, GFAP, ApoE genotype and cognitive state in the SOL-INCA-MRI study. Given that prior work in SOL-INCA found vascular risk to be associated with mild cognitive impairment, we included vascular risk measured by the Framingham CVD risk score and white matter hyperintensity (WMH) burden from MRI as additional predictors.
