One hundred-and-two full-time animal control officers (ACOs) in New Mexico were surveyed to learn about animal bite risks in this little-studied occupational group. The overall bite rate was 2.57 per working-year (175-500 times population-based rate estimates). A "high risk" ACO subset (seven officers involved in 67 per cent of bite incidents) was discovered. Evaluation of animal bite data can contribute to prevention of occupational injuries among the estimated 10,000 full-time ACOs in this country.

During development, cells undergo a sequence of specification events to form functional tissues and organs. To investigate complex tissue development, it is crucial to visualize how cell lineages emerge and to be able to manipulate regulatory factors with temporal control. We recently developed TEMPO (Temporal Encoding and Manipulation in a Predefined Order), a genetic tool to label with different colors and genetically manipulate consecutive cell generations in vertebrates.

Mosaic Analysis with Double Markers (MADM) represents a mouse genetic approach coupling differential fluorescent labeling to genetic manipulations in dividing cells and their lineages. MADM uniquely enables the generation and visualization of individual control or homozygous mutant cells in a heterozygous genetic environment. Among its diverse applications, MADM has been used to dissect cell-autonomous gene functions important for cortical development and neural development in general.

In clinics, physical injuries to the spinal cord cause a temporary motor areflexia below lesion, known as spinal shock. This topic is still underexplored due to the lack of preclinical spinal cord injury (SCI) models that do not use anesthesia, which would affect spinal excitability. Our innovative design considered a custom-made micro impactor that provides localized and calibrated strikes to the ventral surface of the thoracic spinal cord of the entire CNS isolated from neonatal rats.

Bovine brucellosis and bovine tuberculosis are zoonotic diseases with economic and public health importance across the world, especially in developing countries where the diseases are endemic. The diseases are classified as neglected diseases in developing nations with poor resources despite good control measures in some developed countries. The purpose of this study is to assess the knowledge, attitudes and perceptions (KAP) of stakeholders towards control measures for bovine brucellosis (BR) and bovine tuberculosis (bTB) at a livestock-wildlife interface.

The present study aimed to unveil the gastroprotective potential of Vaccinium macrocarpon (VM) extract and its mechanism of action against indomethacin (INDO)-induced gastric ulcers in rats. To achieve this goal, rats were pretreated with either omeprazole (20 mg/kg) or VM (100 mg/kg) orally for 14 consecutive days. Gastric tissue samples were collected and various parameters were evaluated to understand the mechanism of VM's action, including the levels of superoxide dismutase, malondialdehyde, glutathione, CAT and transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β), as well as the mRNA expression levels of tumour necrosis factor alpha, interleukin 1 beta, nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) and inhibitor kappa B (IκB).
