The nitrogen economy of sickle cell patients has been found to be FRpaired due to several factors including poor absorption of protein products and higher than normal urinary nitrogen excretion. The increased urinary loss of nitrogen is probably due to increased protein catabolism as a result of inadequate intestinal supply of nitrogen and its poor utilization. The relationship between urinary nitrogen excretion and dietary nitrogen intake was investigated. The results confirmed that there was higher than normal nitrogen excretion in the sicklers at all levels of nitrogen intake. Creatinine excretion, expectedly, was lower in the sicklers due to their smaller physical stature. Uric acid excretion was higher in the sicklers, and so was the mean urine acid to creatinine ratio (0.64 in the sicklers and 0.34 in the normals). The ratio was not affected by the diet, indicating that there was increased purine metabolism in the sicklers.

The ecological roles of large predators are well recognized, but quantifying their functional impacts remains an active area of research. In this study, we examined the metabolic requirements and nutrient outputs of the estuarine crocodile population () in northern Australia over a 50-year period, during which the population increased from a few thousand to over 100 000 individuals. Bioenergetic modelling showed that during this period, the crocodile population's annual prey consumption increased from <20 kg km in 1979 to approximately 180 kg km in 2019.

Laying hen responses to supplemental multiprotease on performance, egg quality, digestibility, gut histomorphology, nitrogen excretion, and economic performance of laying hens until 37 weeks of age were investigated. A total of 189 25-week-old Hy-Line Brown hens were housed in enriched cages (7 birds/cage) and randomly allocated to 1 of 3 diets with 9 replicates per treatment. Dietary treatments included: an adequate positive control- PC [met the breed and age standards for crude protein (CP) and amino acids (AA)]; negative control- NC (90 % CP and AA requirement); and NC supplemented with multiprotease - NCMP.
