Milking rations containing 16 (control), 13.2, and 10.4% protein were fed to four midlactation, rumen-fistulated Holstein cows. Ammonium chloride was infused ruminally for 5 consecutive days after morning feeding when cows were fed milking rations containing 13.2 and 10.4% protein. Amount infused was equivalent to the ammonia in 1 or 2% dietary urea. Rumen and blood samples were taken prior to and following morning feedings. Intake of milking ration was the same across treatments. Initial rumen pH was higher for ammonium chloride treatments. It then declined, as did the control, to the same, lowest pH at 1.5 to 3 h postfeeding. Rumen ammonia increased rapidly for cows receiving both ammonium chloride treatments to .5 h postfeeding and then declined rapidly. Blood urea nitrogen was highest for cows fed the control ration, peaked .5 h postfeeding for cows infused with the low ammonium chloride, then dropped and peaked again 6 h postfeeding. Blood ammonia was highest among treatments for control cows and differed by sampling time only for control cows with a peak .5 h postfeeding. Because lower rumen pH traps ammonia preventing rapid absorption into blood, interpretation of high rumen ammonia must consider effect of rumen pH.

Experiments were conducted in controlled laboratory conditions to determine the size-resolved CCN (Cloud Condensation Nuclei) activity of sub micrometer-sized aerosols containing nuclear fission products (CsI and CsOH) and abundant ambient inorganic aerosols ammonium sulphates ((NH)SO), ammonium chloride (NHCl), sodium nitrate (NaNO), and sodium chloride (NaCl). The presence of these atmospheric-relevant compounds internally mixed with fission product compounds has the potential to affect the capacity of ambient particulates of aerosols to absorb water and function as CCN. Once in the atmosphere, the dynamics of airborne radionuclides and subsequently their fate gets affected by dry and wet deposition processes.

Seventeen 3-alkylaminoquinoxaline-2(1)-thiones and 3-alkyloxyquinoxaline-2(1)-thiones were prepared by a novel thionation protocol from the readily available quinoxaline-2,3-dione in excellent overall yields. This protocol starts with the chlorination of dione using thionyl chloride to give 2,3-dichloroquinoxaline followed by the reaction with equimolar amounts of -nucleophiles (primary amines and secondary amines) or -nucleophiles (phenols and alcohols) to principally afford 2-alkanamino-3-chloroquinoxalines or 2-alkyloxy-3-chloroquinoxalines, respectively. The chloroquinoxalines reacted with the thionation reagent -cyclohexyl dithiocarbamate cyclohexyl ammonium salt in ethanol under reflux to principally give the corresponding quinoxalin-2-yl cyclohexylcarbamodithioate that finally rearranges to give the corresponding thiones in 76-93% overall yields.

The process of viral entry into host cells is crucial for the establishment of infection and the determination of viral pathogenicity. A comprehensive understanding of entry pathways is fundamental for the development of novel therapeutic strategies. Standard techniques for investigating viral entry include confocal microscopy and flow cytometry, both of which provide complementary qualitative and quantitative data.

α-Terpineol and 1,8-cineole are two important compounds in essential oils. This study developed an efficient method to recover α-terpineol from model oil (MO) based on association extraction by in situ formations of deep eutectic solvent (DES) between α-terpineol and some quaternary ammonium salts (QASs) by hydrogen-bond (HB) interaction. Such interaction could be broken almost completely by the introduction of water, due to the stronger HB interaction between water and QASs, which could release α-terpineol by liquid-liquid separation and save the organic solvents consumption.

Optimizing nitrogen (N) sources has the potential to improve wheat tillering, nitrogen use efficiency (NUE), and grain yield, yet the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. This study hypothesizes that combining specific N sources can increase zeatin riboside + zeatin (ZR + ZT) content in tiller nodes and maintain a higher ZR + ZT/gibberellin A7 (GA) ratio, thereby promoting tiller development, enhancing NUE, and increasing yield. The effects of N source treatments on two wheat cultivars, the multi-spike Shannong 28 (SN28) and the large-spike Tainong 18 (TN18), were investigated.
