Do children with type 1 diabetes mellitus remain protected against hepatitis B?

J Pediatr Endocrinol Metab

January 2025

Department of Medical Biochemistry, Health Science University, Prof Dr Cemil Taşcıoğlu City Hospital, Istanbul, Türkiye.

Objectives: Because patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) have persistent and profound limitations in immune functions, immune response to vaccines may diminish. The aim of our study was to compare the antibody to Hepatitis B surface antigen (anti-HBs) serologies of children with T1DM, at the time of T1DM diagnosis, who were vaccinated according to the vaccination schedule with the anti-HBs serologies of healthy children. And to investigate the relationship between anti-HBs levels and the accompanying variables of these patients.

Objectives: Herpes simplex virus 1 encephalitis (HSE) is the most common infectious encephalitis in developed countries. We aimed to evaluate the association of serum neurofilament light chain (sNfL) with disease severity, outcome and secondary anti-neuronal autoantibodies in a retrospective cohort study.

Methods: We retrospectively identified 30 patients with HSE and 132 controls (bacterial meningoencephalitis BM n = 27, non-bacterial meningitis NBM n = 33, healthy controls = 72).

Objectives: We assessed the positive predictive value (PPV) of 17 myositis antibodies for having a diagnosis of myositis and other myositis-spectrum conditions (interstitial lung disease (ILD), connective tissue diseases (CTD), malignancy) and evaluated the impact of semiquantitative classification and antibody overlap on the PPVs.

Materials And Methods: We retrospectively identified 1068 individuals ≥18 years who tested positive for ≥1 antibody in the EUROLINE myositis line blot assay or positive for anti-3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-CoA reductase (HMGCR) in an ELISA-based test between 2015 and 2020 in 15 out of the 20 hospital districts in Finland. We extracted clinical diagnoses from the Care Register for Health Care between January 2013 and June 2022.

Background: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) diagnosis is a challenge in the initial phases of the disease when clinical symptoms are only starting to develop. Early diagnosis and treatment can promote long-term remission, reduce disability, and improve cardiovascular outcomes. Autoantibodies can help in the diagnosis and identification of RA patients in the early phases of the disease, but scarce information has been reported for the Mexican population.

Novel Meningoencephalomyelitis Associated With Vimentin IgG Autoantibodies.

JAMA Neurol

January 2025

Department of Neurology, Xuanwu Hospital Capital Medical University, National Center for Neurological Disorders, Beijing, China.

Importance: Autoantibodies targeting astrocytes, such as those against glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) or aquaporin protein 4, are crucial diagnostic markers for autoimmune astrocytopathy among central nervous system (CNS) autoimmune disorders. However, diagnosis remains challenging for patients lacking specific autoantibodies.

Objective: To characterize a syndrome of unknown meningoencephalomyelitis associated with an astrocytic autoantibody.
