It is becoming apparent that the results (and especially recurrence rates) with highly selective vagotomy (HSV) vary considerably. Furthermore, the techniques utilized vary considerably as well. Interestingly, most series with higher recurrence rates have shown these trends relatively early on. The author presents a more detailed look at a technique of HSV associated with one of the lowest recurrence rates over a long follow-up period.

Background: Excisional hemorrhoidectomy and stapled hemorrhoidopexy are 2 common procedures for treating symptomatic hemorrhoids. However, concerns persist regarding the risk of postoperative complications and their unclear prevalence in the literature. This systematic review aims to evaluate and compare the prevalence of incontinence after stapled hemorrhoidopexy and excisional hemorrhoidectomy.

Objective: The present study aimed to investigate the association between pituitary adenoma (PA) consistency and other measurable tumor characteristics, extent of resection (EOR), postoperative complications, and outcomes.

Methods: In total, 507 PA resections were intraoperatively assigned a consistency grade from 1 (cystic/hemorrhagic tumors) to 5 (calcified tumors) based on intraoperative tumor characteristics. Tumor consistency was analyzed in tertiles (grades 1 and 2, grade 3, and grades 4 and 5) to determine associations with tumor characteristics, EOR, recurrence, postoperative outcomes, and complications.

Evolution of SARS-CoV-2 in white-tailed deer in Pennsylvania 2021-2024.

PLoS Pathog

Department of Microbiology, Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States of America.

SARS-CoV-2 continues to transmit and evolve in humans and animals. White-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) have been previously identified as a zoonotic reservoir for SARS-CoV-2 with high rates of infection and probable spillback into humans. Here we report sampling 1,127 white-tailed deer (WTD) in Pennsylvania, and a genomic analysis of viral dynamics spanning 1,017 days between April 2021 and January 2024.

Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is a highly aggressive and malignant brain tumor originating from glial cells, characterized by high recurrence rates and poor patient prognosis. The heterogeneity and complex biology of GBM, coupled with the protective nature of the blood-brain barrier (BBB), significantly limit the efficacy of traditional therapies. The rapid development of nanoenzyme technology presents a promising therapeutic paradigm for the rational and targeted treatment of GBM.

Patients with intracranial aneurysm (IA) are at high risk of cerebral hemorrhage, which is associated with high mortality. Craniotomy or interventional endovascular coiling are common treatment methods in clinical practice, depending on the patient's condition. However, the recurrence rate of IA after either method remains unclear.
