Surveillance of Clostridioides difficile on hospital admission and outpatient antibiotic use in Germany-a 9 year ecological analysis.

J Antimicrob Chemother

January 2025

Institute for Hygiene and Environmental Medicine, Charité-Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Joint institution of Freie Universität Berlin and Humboldt-Universität Berlin, Institut für Hygiene und Umweltmedizin, Campus Benjamin Franklin, Hindenburgdamm 27, 12203 Berlin, Germany.

Background: Antibiotic consumption is considered an important risk factor for Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI). This ecological analysis investigates the influence of outpatient antibiotic prescriptions in statutory health insurance (SHI) on the admission prevalence of CDI in German hospitals participating in voluntary CDI surveillance through the hospital infection surveillance system (Krankenhaus-Infektions-Surveillance-System; KISS).

Methods: The annual CDI admission prevalence of a hospital at the federal state level was associated with the outpatient antibiotic consumption of the corresponding federal state.

Cholera is linked to penury, making low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) particularly vulnerable to outbreaks. In this systematic review, we analyzed the drivers contributing to these outbreaks, focusing on the epidemiology of cholera in LMICs. This review followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines and was registered in PROSPERO (ID: CRD42024591613).

Background: (Hi) is known as a cause of invasive and non-invasive diseases. Especially ear, nose and throat (ENT) infections are common reasons for antibiotic prescriptions in outpatient settings in Germany. Therefore, antibiotic resistance surveillance is important to provide the basis of recommendations for the empirical usage of antibiotic agents.

Antimicrobial Susceptibility and Local Epidemiological Cut-Off Values of Vibrio anguillarum Isolated From Fish Farms in Turkey.

J Fish Dis

February 2025

Laboratorio de Patología de Organismos Acuáticos y Biotecnología Acuícola, Facultad de Ciencias de la Vida, Universidad Andrés Bello, Viña del Mar, Chile.

Studies on preventing antimicrobial resistance in aquaculture emphasise the need to responsibly and prudently use antimicrobials, selecting those most effective in controlling and/or reducing mortalities caused by vibriosis. In this study, the distribution of the antimicrobial susceptibility of 28 Vibrio anguillarum isolates from Turkish fish farms was determined using the broth microdilution minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) test according to the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) guideline. The epidemiological cut-off (CO) values of the V.
