Consumption of contaminated pork is a major risk factor for human infection. We thus conducted a cross-sectional survey on the seroprevalence of infection in a representative sample of slaughter pigs from throughout Serbia and examined the influence of farm biosecurity-related risk factors on infection. In addition, direct detection of the parasite (by mouse bioassay) or its DNA was performed in the hearts of a subset of seropositive sows.

The work aimed to study the comparative effectiveness of the immunostimulants "Roncoleukin" and propolis milk for increasing the nonspecific and specific resistance and immunological reactivity of calves during vaccination against salmonellosis. Incisional hernia affects up to 20% of patients after abdominal surgery. Unlike other types of hernia, its prognosis is poor, and patients suffer from recurrence within 10 years of the operation. Currently used hernia-repair meshes do not guarantee success, but only extend the recurrence-free period by about 5 years.

The objectives of the studies were to evaluate the effect of levamisole and 1,3/1,6 glucan applied in pregnant mares on parameters of non-specific cellular and humoral immunity of foals. Eighteen mares in three experimental groups (six animals in each) and their progeny were examined. Multiparous mares, crossbreed of Polish, full-blood and Hannover lines (400-500 kg), 4-9 years old, originated from four different farms.

In chickens immunized by normal and tenfold doses of MARVAK vaccine (100 and 1,000 PFU) we investigated protective effects against the natural contact infection of chickens that were exposed to the infection immediately after vaccination, or at the intervals of 48 and 72 hours, and 7 and 14 days. Studying the elimination of Marek's disease virus by feather follicles, the health condition of chickens, tumor frequency and mortality rate we demonstrated that neither of these doses could protect the chickens from the disease if they were exposed to contact infection just after vaccination. An expressive protective effect was observed in chickens isolated for 7-14 days and there was not recorded any difference in the protection against the disease after the doses of 100 and 1,000 PFU.
