The effects of nifedipine and diltiazem on renal vascular responses to norepinephrine and angiotensin II were investigated in the isolated blood-free perfused rat kidney. The vasoconstrictor response induced by bolus injections of angiotensin II (5 and 10 ng) and norepinephrine (60, 80 and 100 ng) were assessed before and during perfusion of nifedipine (10(-9) mol l-1 to 10(-6) mol l-1) or diltiazem (3 X 10(-7) mol l-1 to 10(-4) mol l-1). At a concentration higher than 10(-9) mol l-1, nifedipine blunted to a similar extent the responses to both angiotensin II and norepinephrine. At concentrations of 3 X 10(-7) mol l-1 and 10(-6) mol l-1, diltiazem inhibited only the response to angiotensin II without affecting the vasoconstrictor effect of norepinephrine. Increase in diltiazem concentration to 10(-5) mol l-1 and 10(-4) mol l-1 was associated with a similar inhibition of the response to angiotensin II and norepinephrine. These results demonstrate that at concentration less than 10(-5) mol l-1, diltiazem acts as a selective antagonist of the effect of angiotensin II whilst no such selectivity of action was observed with all concentrations of nifedipine used in the present studies.

Background: Glyphosate is an extensively employed herbicide in agriculture, specifically for sugarcane cultivation. The situation is different with the extensive physiological and genetic effects exerted by this herbicide on a range of plant species, including sugarcane, whose model basis is still poorly characterized, although its primary mode of action, which acts on the EPSPS enzyme in the shikimic acid pathway, is completely elucidated. The current study was aimed at investigating the stability of glyphosate formulation, molecular interactions of glyphosate formulation with rbcL enzyme associated with chlorophyll metabolism, and its effects on varieties of sugarcane.

Bismuth-layered ferroelectric nanomaterials exhibit great potential for piezo-photocatalysis. However, a major challenge lies in the difficulty of recovering the catalytic powders, raising concerns regarding secondary pollution of water. In this work, a novel hierarchical porous ferroelectric ceramic containing {110} surface-exposed BiNdTiO (BIT-Nd) nanosheet arrays is grown on a porous ceramic matrix for efficient and recyclable piezo-photocatalysis.

Biochar is a novel approach to remediating heavy metal-contaminated soil. Using various organic amendments like phyllosilicate-minerals (PSM), compost, biochar (BC) and sulfur-modified biochar (SMB), demonstrates superior adsorption capacity and stability compared to unmodified biochar (BC). The adsorption mechanisms of SMB are identified for its potential to increase soil-pH and reduce available cadmium (Cd).

This article reports on the long-term use, solid bismuth microelectrode arrays for the first time. The presented working microelectrode is characterized by particular advantages compared to bismuth film electrodes and solid single bismuth microelectrodes; these advantages include environmentally friendly properties and the amplification of recorded currents, which are subsequently more resistant to interference. The proposed solid bismuth microelectrode array was applied to develop an adsorptive stripping voltammetric procedure for Sunset Yellow determination.
