The effect of the diameter of the fusion lock on the forced vergence fixation disparity (FD) curve was investigated because of ambiguity in the results of previous investigations. Data gathered from 20 asymptomatic subjects with normal binocularity showed that the fusion lock diameter had no noticeable effect on the shape of the curve. Further investigations using symptomatic subjects showing large FDs or steep forced vergence FD curves showed that fusion lock diameter did have an effect on the curves of these subjects. The results are interpreted for their clinical implications through a control systems model of the accommodation-vergence interaction.

A study of liquidity cross-chain models based on convex optimization.

Blockchain after several years of hustle, bustle, precipitation, and sublimation, with the landing application step by step towards maturity and development, gradually spawned the outreach needs of interacting with other applications. At this stage, only the mobility cross-chain interoperability technology is the infrastructure system that can perfectly solve such needs. To achieve a cross-chain system that defines and realizes user-free liquidity interoperability according to the cross-chain environment and cross-chain requirements, this paper designs a convex optimization-based liquidity contract pair cross-chain model.

Autologous bone grafts are commonly used to repair defects in skeletal tissue, however, due to their limited supply there is a clinical need for alternatives. Synthetic ceramics present a promising option but currently lack biological activity to stimulate bone regeneration. One potential approach to address this limitation is the incorporation of immunomodulatory agents.

In patients with glioblastoma (GBM), upregulated midkine (MDK) limits the survival benefits conferred by temozolomide (TMZ). RNA interference (RNAi) and CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing technology are attractive approaches for regulating MDK expression. However, delivering these biologics to GBM tissue is challenging.

Article Synopsis
  • Recent research indicates that precision medicine is effective in developing new treatment options for childhood cancers, specifically for high-risk patients with a low expected cure rate.
  • In a study involving 384 patients, 67% received recommendations for precision-guided treatment (PGT), leading to a 36% objective response rate and better 2-year progression-free survival compared to standard treatments.
  • The most significant benefits from PGT were observed in cases targeting specific genetic markers and when treatment started before disease progression.

Enhancing spinal bone anchor pull-out resistance with an L-shaped anchor.

The success rate of spinal fusion surgery is mainly determined by the fixation strength of the spinal bone anchors. This study explores the use of an L-shaped spinal bone anchor that is intended to establish a macro-shape lock with the posterior cortical layer of the vertebral body, thereby increasing the pull-out resistance of the anchor. The performance of this L-shaped anchor was evaluated in lumbar vertebra phantoms (L1-L5) across four distinct perpendicular orientations (lateral, medial, superior, and inferior).
