Rotor syndrome (RS) is a benign, inherited, commonly misdiagnosed cause of conjugated hyperbilirubinemia whose identification prevents unnecessary invasive investigations. We present the case of a 3-y-old boy with phenotypic and laboratory findings of RS but negative genetic test results, whose diagnosis was confirmed by hepatobiliary scintigraphy.

Small-bowel obstruction is a fairly common cause of abdominal pain. Differentiating between true duodenal obstruction and pseudo obstruction is important given differing treatment strategies. Here, we present augmentation of a hepatobiliary scan with a small amount of oral liquids and delayed imaging to differentiate between these two entities.

Although right upper quadrant pain is a very common clinical presentation, it can be nonspecific. However, acute cholecystitis is very often the diagnosis of exclusion. This review focuses on the recommended imaging evaluation in the most commonly encountered clinical scenarios presenting with right upper quadrant abdominal pain, including suspected biliary disease, suspected acute cholecystitis, and suspected acalculous cholecystitis.
